I'll let you in on a secret. Syndicates are a special type of investor - they are usually made up of angel investors who have strong operational backgrounds and industry experts. What does this mean? They are a group of investors who are more than just dollars, they are brains and experience that can help startups with all sorts of questions and challenges. So if you are a founder looking for some extra fire power, or if you are an investor looking for more active engagement with startups, let us know and we'd love to chat.

We're thrilled to have our Partner, John Mairlot, contribute his voice at ChangeNOW among visionaries and leaders dedicated to sustainability and social impact. Here are our key insights: Unified Front for Change 🌍: The convergence of startups, investors, consumers, educators, corporates, and governments is catalyzing a transformational shift for both business and the environment. It's clear: those not part of this movement will find themselves on the sidelines. Commitment at the Core 💚: Industry giants like Renault Group and L'Oréal are actively reducing greenhouse gases and integrating considerations of planetary boundaries and biodiversity into their operations. Their commitment is a powerful call to action for others in the industry. Diversity and Empowerment 🌈: The call to action has been heard far and wide, attracting talent from all corners to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The future belongs to organizations that value open-mindedness, embrace diversity across all dimensions, and recognize capabilities over conventional business norms. At Endgame Capital, we're inspired by this collective drive towards a sustainable future and are committed to supporting innovations that make a real difference. #ChangeNOW #Sustainability #Innovation #DiversityInTech

“Find something that makes you angry and learn how to solve that” Yesterday we held our INSEAD Impact Entrepreneurship Forum: Driving Systems Change at ChangeNOW✅ Here are a few highlights from the 3 hour session which brought together INSEAD Alumni and graduates of INSEAD Executive Education graduates.   The forum was led by Maria Fedorova who set the stage citing that in a time of polycrisis it is more necessary than ever to look at systems change.    🌟Dean Francisco Veloso gave a welcome address in which he highlighted the important power entrepreneurs have to enable creative destruction - the ability to come with new ideas, enter economic system and change the structure. This is needed to create a more sustainable and prosperous world.     Nancy Hsieh, Executive Director of Rudolf and Valeria Maag INSEAD Centre for Entrepreneurship further expanded by saying at INSEAD we create a safe space for students to experiment which in turn ensures that students take courage and step up. Award winning social entrepreneur Jeroo Billimoria gave a fireside chat. She said she takes her definition of systems change from the street kids she worked with in India over theoretical explanations. “Bringing about change we need to do it together, being a street child is hard. Change has to be collaborative. It is working collaboratively to tackle any issue.”   📍Dr. Vinika Devasar Rao Asia Director, INSEAD Hoffmann Institute moderated a panel with Mila Lukic, CEO Bridges Outcomes Partnerships (INSEAD MBA’12D ) ; Ricardo Ramos, CEO, Aliança pelo Impacto.(INSEAD MBA’15J) Both spoke about funding allocation challenges. Mila said there needs to be a shift towards longer term funding in health and education much like the widely accepted view for infrastructure projects.   Ricardo recommended listening and including those most affected and to empower by providing capital. 🚀Nancy Hsieh moderated 'Fundraising and Growth in Impact Entrepreneurship' with John Mairlot, Partner at Endgame Capital, Grégoire Landel, Founder of CityTaps, Julia Venn, Co-founder of Bii Côte d'Ivoire. This panel also spoke about funding, in particular the use of grant money, which is often underestimated and can be extremely helpful. However panellists stressed the importance of having a strategic plan and don't comprise on this plan.   📚Our final session was with Felipe Monteiro, Senior Affiliate Professor of Strategy INSEAD on "Working with corporates". He shared that corporates are realising that their business model is out of date and they need help from entrepreneurs. He then asked participants to come up with recommendations of do's and dont's for working with corporates. Clear, aligned communication was a big DO. Closing remarks were given by Nancy Hsieh;  1. Find something that makes you angry and figure out how to solve that. 2. You are not alone, community is here to help. 3. There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic. There are good people committed to carry this forward.

Tips on getting from A to B from Jinna Li, Endgame Capital Partner: Juggling tasks, deep work and strategic planning time.

🧠 Maximizing Productivity: Balancing Tasks, Deep Work, and Strategic Thinking Over the past five years, my entrepreneurial journey has taught me lessons about discipline, self-management, and team dynamics. But one of the most critical learnings has been mastering the trifecta of productivity: task management, deep work, and strategic planning. 📈In navigating from point A to B, I've leaned on insights from resources like "The 4 Hour Work Week," "Make Time," and insightful interviews with leaders like Frank Slootman. Here, I share some strategies for enhancing productivity and helping me achieve my goals. 📋Tasks Management: We often begin our days lost in emails and hop from one task to another, ending the day wondering, "What did I actually accomplish?". I combat this by starting each day with a 10-minute planning session, establishing my main priority, and then sharing this focus with my team in a quick 'stand-up'. Drawing from Make Time, I concentrate on a 'Highlight' to ensure a sense of daily achievement. For emails, I’ve adopted a twice-a-day policy, checking once post-stand-up and a second time after lunch, a strategy inspired by The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. This has significantly cleared my mental bandwidth. 💡Deep Work: Entering a state of 'flow' or deep work is transformative. I schedule a sacred time between 10 am - 12 pm, following my email routine, to engage in this uninterrupted, high-concentration work. This is the time when I delve into the top priority item or "highlight", whether that's deal diligence, financial analysis, or refining strategic documents. My afternoons are open for tasks and meetings. 🔍Strategic Planning: Beyond daily tasks and deep work sessions, strategic thinking is essential for long-term success. This involves stepping back to rigorously think about strategic focus, milestones, and eliminating the noise. Despite the challenge of finding time amidst urgent tasks, strategic planning is non-negotiable. Delegate, enlist co-founders’ support, or take a short retreat to clear space for this critical thinking. What’s worked for me: 1. Set clear objectives, strategies, and measurable goals (OKRs) for the next year (with the long term vision in mind) 2. Get feedback, alignment, and buy-in from the leadership team. 3. Build out actionable work streams (projects and experiments), identify dependencies and blocks, assign resources, people, deadlines 🔄Lastly, review and adjust based on outcomes. Especially, be intellectually honest about wins, fails, and learnings. I hope my learnings can be helpful to unlocking productivity and achieving your goals. 🚀 Happy Sunday! P.S. Check out Frank Slootman's YouTube interview "taking ownership, increasing velocity & cultivating talent" and his book "Amp it up" for more insights. See comments for link to a nice article about Make Time.

Meeting Batch.Works and Elyos Energy last week in London - it's always nice to visit the offices where the magic happens. Thanks to Adrian Johnston and Milo Mcloughlin-Greening for hosting us. London, see you soon.

Just wrapped up our first London onsite with our portfolio of startups with John Mairlot. Here's the quick scoop, reframed as tips to startups: 1. 🌆Go where the action is. London's buzzing with climate tech energy and tasty restaurants lurking around every corner. Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, where else in Europe are hotspots for climate tech or startup scene? If you want to build quickly, go to one of these places. 2. 💥Think outside of the box. Batch.Works does this two ways. 1) they've set up a genius co-working space in their office. It's not just about covering expenses; it's a goldmine for talent and fresh ideas. 2) Stay bold and be creative. Break the mold, build cool stuff. That's how Batch.Works mastered circular 3D design and developed killer software and hardware. Thanks Milo Mcloughlin-Greening for the tour of your converted bus depot office. 3. 💡Sweat the small stuff and don't under estimate network effects. Elyos Energy's Adrian Johnston showed us how their energy optimization software point outs tiny tweaks can lead to huge savings - like turning off the heat on Christmas in 150 buildings saving $15k. Multiply that with other energy optimization tweaks, this client could save $300k a year. 4. 🏇The jockey comes before the horse. SAPI's successful pivot and phenomenal growth in the past year is a prime example of the importance of the founders, Mai Le + Alexis van Lennep. This leads me to a wild idea... The real unicorns in unicorn startups? It's the founders. To the unicorn investors out there: Did your gut say "that's a unicorn in human form" when you first met the founders? Thoughts? Drop your insights below. #StartupLife #Innovation #Founders #ClimateTech
