At African Renaissance Ventures (ARV), we are committed to exploring transformative opportunities across the continent, and healthcare is one of the most pressing and promising areas for innovation. In this insightful piece, my colleague and ARV Venture Partner, Maya Zein, lays out the case for healthtech in #Africa. She explores how innovative solutions like mobile health platforms, AI-driven diagnostics, and accessible telemedicine can address critical gaps in healthcare access while creating immense opportunities for growth and impact. Maya’s argument is clear: healthtech is not just a frontier; it’s a necessity. Dive into her article here: https://lnkd.in/ecMBm3-X

Change Forces invested in Kubik, Inc. to help deliver a solution to reduce waste, build climate-friendly housing, and empower women’s lives. • #Ethiopia's new $3.4 billion Extended Credit Facility from IMF, which backs currency reform and other reforms to support market-driven growth, was announced this morning. A carefully negotiated process, this will trigger financial support from the World Bank and others. From ARV's standpoint, it will address a key impediment to investment in Ethiopia and helps validate our confidence in Ethiopia's medium-term attractiveness as an investment destination. #EastAfrica #AfricaVC https://lnkd.in/eSKRjEFQ

  • Groundbreaking currency reform in #Ethiopia backed by $13m+ in financing: "FX reform will complement numerous other reform measures taken in recent years to promote the private sector. Among others, such measures have included the opening up of sectors previously closed to private/foreign investors (telecom, logistics, banking, capital markets, wholesale/retail trade), ease of doing business reforms, the start of private sector participation in public sector projects (via PPPs), the introduction of Special Economic Zones, and much more. While reforms in the above areas opened up numerous opportunities for the private sector and for driving future growth, foreign exchange policies remained a serious impediment in some cases and were thus in need of correction. Fifth, FX reform will improve Ethiopia’s attractiveness to foreign investors, thus providing a big boost to FDI inflows and aligning our business environment with those of our neighbors and peers." #AfricanVC

  • Drones are revolutionizing a variety of fields with their versatility and efficiency, particularly within the African landscape. At the forefront of this innovation is CHARIS UAS in #Rwanda, a company dedicated to creating drones tailored for specific needs. These drones have been instrumental in monitoring the construction of significant infrastructure projects such as the expansion of Kigali Airport. Moreover, CHARIS UAS has pioneered the use of drones in agriculture by employing them to identify and eliminate mosquito larvae in Rwandan rice paddies, effectively preventing the spread of malaria. Their technology extends beyond pest control, offering wide-ranging applications across agriculture, healthcare, environmental conservation, and more, supported by a proprietary data analytics platform for generating valuable insights. In essence, drones represent a pivotal technology in driving the African Renaissance. Eric Rutayisire Muziga African Renaissance Partners Magdi Amin Henok Assefa
