💧Today exactly 106 years ago #WWI came to an end, but unexploded missiles are still affecting the French people now. #Groundwater #Pollution 👇 🕊️ Although the #armistice of 11 November 1918 ended the #GreatWar, the repercussions of this war are still making victims around the old battlefields. However, this time the enemy is not hidden within the trenches, but below the surface. And it was so well-hidden that it wasn’t detected until 2009, when the emerging contaminant #perchlorate showed up in tests of municipal drinking water. 📸 Join the photo story contest from our friends of Onewater! Besides recognition and an international platform, you may even win price money👇
Calling all photographers and storytellers: our annual photostory contest is back! 📸 ✨ Why should you take part? Our sponsors have helped us make this year's prizes bigger and better, as well as giving participants more chances to win. · Global prizes: 10,000€ including a grand prize of 5000€! · Regional prizes: If your photostory takes place in South Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, or Europe, you may also be entered into our regional contest. 💧 What is this about? The theme of the contest is ‘Water Towers’. This is to reflect the theme of the 2024/25 UN World Water Development Report. The contest invites photographers to shed light on the critical issue of disappearing glaciers, celebrate the diverse ways water is stored, and redefine the concept of ‘water towers.’ 🌱 What type of things are we looking for? The sky's the limit when it comes to creativity! Here are some ideas to get you started: · Document the impacts of climate change from source-to-sea. · Showcase natural and built water storage in changing landscapes. · Explore innovative water management solutions and the new metaphorical 'water towers'. Please note that submissions will be judged on writing, originality, theme, and photo quality. 📸 How can you take part? To participate, please submit your photostory entries through one of the following: Picter platform (https://lnkd.in/ddPfXpN3), OR this Google form (https://lnkd.in/dMbuqaP9). The deadline for the contest is 8th December 2024. Winners will be announced in January 2025. 📣 October has been a special and eventful month for IGRAC 👇 📊 After a well-received pilot last year, in which IGRAC contributed to the addition of groundwater levels data to the State of Global Water Resources 2022 report, our team (and Elie Gerges in particular) increased efforts to expand the number of countries included for the 2023 edition. From 10 countries last year, we went to 40 (!) this year. #WMOreport World Meteorological Organization 🇼🇸 Our Director Elisabeth Lictevout conducted a 2-week field research, together with the local stakeholders, in #Samoa. #SIDS #monitoring 🇲🇦 She also gave a talk as one of the invited international experts during a Scientific Day in #Rabat, #Morocco. #groundwater #climatechange 🇨🇭 And finally, our Senior Groundwater Specialist Arnaud Sterckx contributed to three different sessions at the annual IAH - International Association of Hydrogeologists Congress, this year taking place in #Davos, #Switzerland. #IAH2024 #IAHcongress #Newsletter #UndergroundUpdate #SDG6 #ClimateAction Claudia Ruz Vargas Feifei CAO Dominique Bérod Raphaëlle Aubert
