Hubert Bals Fund selects twelve features for support 🤝
The Hubert Bals Fund (HBF), IFFR’s fund that supports groundbreaking film projects in every stage of the production process, is excited to announce that after a record-breaking 1,169 submitted projects and an incredibly challenging selection process, twelve feature films were selected to receive Development Support grants of €10,000 each.
“This wave of grant recipient filmmakers each come from a different context but share a common approach", said Tamara Tatishvili, Head of the Hubert Bals Fund. “They do not remain silent or give into despair amid the challenges of our current times. Instead they stay active, speak up, and make their voices heard through their stories and artistry.”

RTM Pitch call 📣
IFFR and Gemeente Rotterdam offer a fantastic €20,000 grant to bring a short film (5 to 20 mins) to life that shines a spotlight on our beloved city. The film will premiere at IFFR 2026 as part of the RTM programme.
As well as offering the selected filmmakers the chance to make their film, this year we’re collaborating with talent agency Qissa to provide an additional development grant to another selected filmmaker, as well as tailor-made coaching for five further creators.

Celebrating partners, talent and impact in São Paulo!
We’re full of inspiration after returning from the Mostra de São Paulo and the Encontro de Ideias, where we hosted the Impact Day with Brazilian partner organisation Projeto Paradiso celebrating the past and future of the HBF’s impact in Brazil.
As well as celebrating the launch of our publication Development with Impact to a full house, it was a fantastic experience joining panels and reconnecting with familiar faces — including HBF alumni, both emerging and established, like Marcelo Caetano and Marcelo Gomes, whose São Paulo premiers of Baby (HBF & CineMart supported) and Portrait of a Certain Orient (IFFR 2024 world premiere in Big Screen Competition) we were delighted to enjoy from the audience.
We also had the chance to engage with key representatives from Brazilian government and policy-making bodies, reconnecting with influential industry players — looking towards more exciting collaborations on the horizon!
We couldn't be prouder of our partnership with Projeto Paradiso and thank everyone at the Mostra for their incredible teamwork and support. Here’s to more successful collaborations!
Do you want to be one of the voices that report on the festival? 🎙️
Having a plurality of experiences and perspectives is what makes the festival special and that's why we're excited to host the third edition of our Media Outreach & Inclusion Scheme at IFFR 2025.
By welcoming new and diverse voices to report on the festival, the scheme aims to remove barriers to journalists and media makers from communities that are currently underrepresented.

IFFR 2025 campaign: Take the leap 🐅
The festival is getting closer and the Tiger is out on the streets of Rotterdam once again! Unafraid of the unknown, it presents cinema as a medium of change, discovery and transformation.
“These tigers appear in surprising, surreal Magritte-like settings. Because films shift reality and give us new ways of looking at the world,” says Rens from design agency 75B who, together with our Festival Director Vanja Kaludjercic, have created a playful, mysterious campaign that reflects the joy of the unknown through a mix of styles, colours and textures across a series of distinct images.
A special thanks goes to our main partners Fonds21, de Volkskrant, VriendenLoterij for their enduring commitment and generous support to the festival and its main subsidisers, the government Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (Ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap), Gemeente Rotterdam, Creative Europe MEDIA and the Netherlands Film Fund.
