  • We are proud to present the below publication of the PROSANI USAID Integrated Health Project in DRC!   The publication is called BEST PRACTICES ON THE LAST-MILE SUPPLY CHAIN OF HEALTH PRODUCTS IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO It is available in English and in French. The English version is attached below.   The report was presented by the PNAM (Program National d’Approvisionnement des Medicaments of the Democratic Republic of Congo) last month to supply chain experts of the various health programs and technical and financial partners in DRC. The presentation was made at national level as well as in each of the 9 provinces where USAID-IHP has been engaging over the last 7 years.   The report touches on the challenges, activities, changes, and achievements of this multi-stakeholder project and how to sustain the improvements that have been made. An interesting read for anyone working in global health supply chain.   We want to thank our team in DRC and in Woerden, who have worked tirelessly for years and who have achieved so many milestones in improving access to medicines for the Congolese people. Company visits part I – On Wednesday the 4th of December Peter Derrek Hof Marchel Gerrmann and I visited 4 Dutch companies – i+solutions IMRES B.V. - Providing global access to quality medical care Hospitainer Medical Solutions Bilthoven Biologicals working in the area of global health. During the visits, we learnt that: - I+ Solutions is using digital innovations to improve the supply chain of medical commodities. - IMRES procures and distributes quality assured essential medicines, including medical health kits, in humanitarian contexts, including Gaza, Sudan, Afghanistan and DRC. - Hospitainer has grown in only 15 years from the production of one single mobile medical container to producing large quantities of state-of-the- art inflatable medical facilities that can be used in the most hard to reach conflict settings, including Gaza and Ukraine, disaster-prone and rural areas. - Bilthoven Biologicals makes vaccines against e.g. polio available that are used by UNICEF in their worldwide inoculation campaign for children, again including the most hard to reach children in fragile settings. We also learnt that Bilthoven Biologials has been selected by the European Union as one of the dedicated partners for pandemic preparedness. Edward Monchen Sterre Bergman Rolof M. This #WorldAIDSDay, we call on countries to keep human rights central in the #HIV response.   Marginalization, criminalization and discrimination against key populations has fuelled HIV transmission and cost lives.   By protecting everyone’s right to health, we can prevent new infections and achieve an AIDS-free generation.

On Sunday December 1st, it’s World Aids Day for the 37th time. Since World Health Organization started this yearly commemoration in 1988, World Aids Day provides a platform to raise awareness about the impact #HIV and #Aids still have on millions of people around the world. This year’s theme is 👉 ‘Take the rights path: My health, my right!’ This theme touches on the inequality in health care access as one of the major obstacles to end Aids as a public health threat by 2030. Much progress has been made in the last 20 years, but infections are on the rise. In 2023, an estimated 39.9 million people were living with HIV. Around 30.7 million of them were accessing retroviral therapy, meaning 9.2 million were not. Many of them are unaware of their HIV status. Approximately 630.000 people died from HIV-related causes that year and around 1.3 million people acquired HIV and will need to take medication for the rest of their life. The importance of #prevention is essential to end HIV by 2030. Luckily, the portfolio of preventive methods has expanded over the years. Options range from a pill to be taken daily, to long-acting injectable medicines that are an easier preventive method for people to take and keep up. Apretude, also known as CAB-LA, a 2-month long-acting preventive cabotegravir injectable, developed by ViiV Healthcare, has so far been approved only in a few countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). i+solutions is procuring CAB-LA under The Global Fund’s Pooled Procurement Mechanism for Uganda, Cambodia, Nigeria and Ethiopia. The first shipment of CAB-LA has arrived last week at The Medical Export Group BV, i+solutions’ warehousing partner in the Netherlands, from where the deliveries are made. We are proud to contribute in our small way to increase access to preventive HIV medication. 📢 Health is a universal human right. We need to protect that right always everywhere. UNAIDS published a report about the importance of protecting everyone’s rights, in order to protect everyone’s health. • Another oxygen plant commissioning took place yesterday at Lira Hospital in Uganda! Yesterday, we commissioned, on behalf of The Global Fund, the oxygen plant and building at Lira Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda. Lira RRH, a public hospital funded by the Ministry of Health - Uganda, serves nine districts and Lira City in the Lango sub-region with a population of approximately 2.5 million people. The Lira Hospital is one of 4 lots in Uganda where i+solutions has done oxygen construction work. The plants at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and Mbale RRH were already handed over to the hospital administration last month. The Hoima RRH site is in the final stages of construction and will be commissioned next week. The construction process from start to finish took only 4 months at the Lira Hospital, which shows that great communication with all stakeholders involved pays off when it comes to speed up the work. Thanks to the technical expertise at the Uganda Ministry of Health, we were able to move so fast. The same goes for the collaboration with Build Health Life (BHL) who executed the construction work excellently. The construction process from start to finish knows many steps: from requisition to site assessment, to scope of work, Bill of Quantities, order placement, and actual construction, plant delivery, installation, commissioning and handover. Excellent communication and alignment between all stakeholders in each phase is of the utmost importance. As part of the commissioning of the oxygen plant, local hospital staff are trained in the proper operation and first line maintenance of the oxygen plant. The plants at Lira Hospital have double capacity and can simultaneously fill medical oxygen cylinders as well as supply oxygen directly to the hospital via the medical gas piping system. We want to thank our counterparts at The Global Fund and the Ministry of Health - Uganda, the Lira Hospital management, our supplier Sinopharm Fortune International Trading Corp. and Build Health Life, our Oxygen Team and all the people on site who worked hard to get this done in record time. The Global Fund’s oxygen project, part of the Covid-19 Response Mechanism is huge, important and impactful. i+solutions is currently working on delivering 166 sites in over 30 countries. Needless to say, yesterday’s commissioning is a great step forward in health care quality for the 2.5 million Ugandans served by this hospital. Pictures attached at from Lira and Mbale Hospital. #oxygen #everybreathcounts
