Over ons

Join us on our mission that aims systemic change in the fashion industry: social, local, circular Our dream is a fundamental and systemic change in the fashion industry:  Local, social and circular. New Optimist shows a new holistic way from Amsterdam: a social atelier and local clothing brand that operates fully within the boundaries of the Donut Economy.   The social atelier produces all garments in Amsterdam and facilitates a creative fusion of tasks, talents and backgrounds. People from different backgrounds participate in a commercial company that builds on the social foundation of all members of the team, including the makers of the garments from our local Amsterdam community. All New Optimist garments are designed and produced following 3 circular design principles. 1) make products that don’t create waste or pollution, 2) Make durable products, 3) Use recycled materials and achieve garment recyclability. By putting the makers and the production process in the spotlight, we celebrate the beautiful craft of making garments.

  • Next years Fall/Winter Collection is finished! This week, our team of proud makers put the final touches on our Fall/Winter ’25 collection. Let us take you behind the scenes of how this collection came to life. It all begins with listening—to you. We analyze which styles you love, which ones need refining, and, of course, dream up showstopping pieces to add to the mix.  From there, the creative spark ignites. Colors, silhouettes, and fabrics take center stage. Fabric sourcing is where we truly light up. These materials are more than just textiles; they carry stories of renewal, sustainability, and ingenuity. Working with them doesn’t just inspire us—it transforms us. Last but not least: the magic moment when sketches and ideas turn into real garments. This is where teamwork, creativity, and craftsmanship come together to make it all happen. Our pride and excitement? Absolutely off the charts. Fall/Winter ’25 is a wrap!

  • Half way this year, we had the privilege of welcoming Maria Gunnarsson to our team—a talented designer and a maker at heart. Maria doesn’t just create; she solves problems, thinks ahead, and ensures every detail has a purpose. Thanks to her vision and dedication, we’re now two incredible collections further. Here’s to Maria, whose work inspires us every day. We’re so grateful to have her as part of our journey. 💚

  • This was the year we had to restock not once, not twice, but multiple times—thanks to your overwhelming enthusiasm! Our team stepped up, putting in extra hours and showing incredible flexibility to ensure we could meet the demand.. So here’s to the makers of New Optimist in Amsterdam who prove that your sweater can be made locally. Apart from a year of hard work, it's has been about gratitude and growth at the same time. We couldn’t have done it without your support. 🙏

  • LOOKING BACK, MOVING FORWARD A few months ago, New Optimist launched hashtag #OPT a simple call to action that represents the power of choice. Our rallying cry quickly evolved into something much bigger. It became personal to many, as we saw countless individuals making bold, meaningful hashtag #OPTs—choices that inspire and create real change. Marnix Geus, Moustafa Makhlouf, Kiki Boreel, Agnes Weber, Nawfal Al Jeburi, and Maartje Bregman. They stood up and showed us what it means to challenge the status quo, leading with heart and leaving a lasting impact. Their #OPT stories continue to inspire us, reminding us that change starts with one choice, one voice. For that, we are truly grateful.

  • Meet Noor – The Researcher Behind the Scenes of New Optimist’s Circularity Journey At New Optimist, we’re always striving to make fashion more circular. To help us do this, we have Noor Eddes, a talented graduate researcher from Delft University of Technology. Noor has designed a survey to learn more about how you, our valued community, perceive our Statiegeld (deposit) system and Digital Product Passport. Noor is passionate about exploring ways to improve these features, making your New Optimist experience even better. Whether you’re familiar with these concepts or just hearing about them now, your perspective matters! 👉 Take just 10 minutes to share your thoughts in the survey 👉 we’ll give you 15% off as a thank-you Start the Survey https://lnkd.in/eU9BJbWB Thanks for helping.
