Challenging installation of a PE100 outfall pipeline in the UK’s Severn Estuary Kaymac Marine & Civil Engineering has successfully completed a challenging £8.4M project to install a new PE100 outfall pipeline in an ecologically sensitive area of the Severn Estuary in the UK. The project involved the installation of a new 1.4km long by 560mm internal diameter PE100 outfall pipeline that was manufactured in Norway by Pipelife Norge and transported 2100 kilometers to Newport, Wales in 11 sections. After site preparation, which primarily comprised excavation of the pipe trench, the pipeline was then installed using over 260 pre-cast concrete ballast collars. These were designed to ensure stability of the pipeline against the hydrodynamic forces of the estuary and the natural buoyancy of the PE100 material. Consistent quality HDPE at the highest level for the production of PE100 pipes
Over ons
Founded in 1999, the PE100+ Association is an industry organisation of several polyethylene (HDPE) manufacturers whose objective is to promote consistent quality at the highest level in the production and the use of polyethylene for PE100 pipes. By monitoring the most critical properties of enhanced requirements, the PE100+ Association is able to issue a "PE100+ Quality Materials list" on a regular basis.

PE100+ Association holds it first Arabian Gulf members meeting The first meeting of the four members of the PE100+ Association, which have production facilities in the Arabian Gulf region, was held at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel on 6 November 2024, during the Trenchless Middle East event. The meeting was attended by representatives from TASNEE, SABIC, Borouge Pte. and LyondellBasell and chaired by Andrew Wedgner, the association’s president. The meeting was held to discuss the concerns and ideas presented by the Arabian Gulf members of the association and to agree on joint activities for 2025. The meeting discussed technical subjects, mainly relating to operational conditions in the Gulf region and the proposed text of Annex D in the upcoming revision of ISO 4427-1 standard. It was agreed that the association would take part in The World Utilities Congress which is to be held in Abu Dhabi on 27 - 29 May 2025 and at the next Trenchless Middle East event, which is to be held in Riyadh in Q4 2025. #PE100 https://lnkd.in/e9QUnTi8

PE100+ Association publishes a PE100-RC+ quality material list PE 100-RC materials have become an essential and well-established sub-family of PE 100 compounds. These materials offer higher stress crack resistance, resulting in a lower risk of failure due to installation-related damage or point loads encountered after installation. This enhanced durability has facilitated the wider adoption of trenchless installation methods, which have a reduced environmental impact. To ensure the consistently high quality of PE 100-RC materials, the PE100+ Association has established a quality list for PE 100-RC compounds. To be included on the PE100-RC+ quality material list, the following requirements must be met: 1) The candidate material must be produced by a member company of the PE100+ Association;.and 2) Two independent batches of the candidate material must pass initial qualification testing. This testing includes, among other evaluations: · Accelerated Notch Pipe Test (ANPT); · Crack Round Bar Test (CRB); · Accelerated Full Notch Creep Test (AFNCT); and · Strain Hardening Test (SHT) All testing is undertaken in accordance with the EN 12201 and ISO 4427 standards for water applications and the EN 1555 and ISO 4437 standards for gas applications. Additionally, the material must participate in and pass the annual check test program for PE100-RC+. Through annual testing of fresh batches of PE100-RC+ materials from member companies and the publication of the quality material list, the PE100+ Association ensures consistent, high-level quality in the production and application of PE 100-RC+ pipe materials. https://lnkd.in/eHM3G2F9 #PE100 #PE100+

The Plastics Industry Pipe Association of Australia (PIPA) has published on its website the updated guidelines for best practices in electrofusion welding, POP001 and POP001A. Polyethylene (PE100) pipe is a widely used material in infrastructure projects such as water, sewerage and gas networks, irrigation systems and industrial and mining applications. Their installation must therefore comply with strict industry standards. POP001 and POP001A are comprehensive guidelines to help installers ensure a successful electrofusion joint, from proper pipe preparation to welder certification. PE100+ Presentation at Trenchless Middle East Trenchless Middle East 2024: The leading trenchless technology conference and exhibition was held in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates on 5 and 6 November. As the use of trenchless technology to install PE100 pipe systems is one of the associations focus areas, the PE100+ Association had a stand at the exhibition and gave a presentation entitled “The use of PE100 materials in trenchless technology applications” which was given by Hussein Basha, a Senior Application Development Engineer at Borouge Pte. Ltd. Mr. Basha focussed on the different technologies that can be used to install PE100 pipe systems and the relevant EN and ISO standards, together with giving an introduction to the No-Dig Guide that can be found on the PE100+ website. Support was provided by staff from other member companies namely SABIC, TASNEE and LyondellBasell. This was a successful event and we are looking forward to next year’s conference, which will be held in Saudi Arabia. #PE100 #trenchless #nodig #Dubai

On 2nd Sep. 2024 the PE100+ association visited the Plastic Pipe Systems sub-committee of the China National Plastic Products Standardization Technical Committee. The association’s president introduced the association and talked about developments in the European PE pipe market including the growth of multilayer pipes, the use of PE100 in manufacturing large structures and the development of specialist materials for demanding applications. He also explained how the European and ISO standards have developed to cover some of these applications. Professor Aiming Xiang explained the role of their committee and recent work on updating standards. The two organisations discussed existing international standards and test methods for evaluating the oxidative resistance of Polyethylene (PE) pipe to chlorinated water and how this could help in drafting the relevant Chinese standards. Both parties agreed that there is a lot of scope for future cooperation in the development of standards. #PE100 #PlasticPipe

Following on from the Plastic Pipes XXI conference that was held in Florida in September 2023, the association agreed to support two spin-off conferences, the first of which was held in Shijiazhuang, China on 5 and 6 September 2024, in combination with the 7th China International Plastic Pipe Conference. This large conference attracted 340 delegates who listened to a mixture of 25 domestic and international presentations covering topics such as raw materials, manufacturing, design, installation and sustainability. The event also attracted with 17 companies showcasing their products in the exhibition area. The PE100+ Association, represented by Andrew Wedgner, gave two presentations concerning the results of a study regarding hydrogen permeation from 4 different types of PE pipes and the use of different trenchless technology applications to install PE pipes. This successful event nicely showcased the very large size of the plastic pipe industry in China and some of the innovative technologies that it is developing. #PPXXI #PE100

The strain hardening modulus, as defined by ISO 18488, serves as an indirect measure of the resistance to slow crack growth in polyethylene materials. This test is a prerequisite for PE100+ RC listing. The PE100+ Association conducted a round robin test in accordance with ISO 18488:2015, with administrative support from KIWA. The enclosed report provides comprehensive details of the round robin test, including results and interpretations. #PE100 #roundrobintest
