In December 2024, PRI, alongside The Institute of Social Activities and Practices and Terre des hommes Foundation - Romania, hosted a Knowledge Exchange Event in Sofia, Bulgaria. This event was part of the EU-funded #DataMOSAIC Project, which aims to strengthen Violence Against Children (#VAC) monitoring practices in child detention facilities through the 𝑑𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑟𝑒ℎ𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑣𝑒, 𝑛𝑜𝑛-𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑡𝑜𝑜𝑙. The event brought together practitioners from child detention facilities in #Ireland, #Romania and #Bulgaria -countries currently piloting the Data MOSAIC Tool. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞, 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬. 📌 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 The event, designed as a collaborative platform, focused on key themes essential to advancing safeguarding and monitoring practices in #juvenilejustice systems, including: ➡️ Safeguarding practices and procedures: Mapping safeguarding protocols within detention facilities, identifying critical actors and their roles. As well as discussing the integration of VAC monitoring into routine practices. ➡️ Monitoring and data analysis: Exploring some of the tool’s capabilities such as 🔴tracking peer-to-peer violence,🔴institutional violence and🔴incidents targeting vulnerable groups. Additionally, addressing challenges encountered during the piloting phase, such as technical issues and limited staff availability for data collection and analysis. ➡️ Comparative approaches across systems: Analysing practices, strengths and challenges specific to the justice systems in Ireland, Romania and Bulgaria. Open discussion around how each country addresses common challenges such as overcrowding and limited resources and coming up with potential solutions. ℹ️ This event is a pivotal part of the Data MOSAIC Project’s mission to #safeguard #children in #detention by improving #monitoringsystems and advocating for evidence-based practices. It underscored the importance of collaboration, highlighting shared challenges while offering innovative solutions that can be adapted across contexts. 📌 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭? The insights from this event will inform the refinement of the Data MOSAIC Tool, addressing usability issues identified during the pilot phase. The updated tool will be reintroduced for further piloting within national institutions, aiming to enhance data-driven policies that protect children, particularly those in vulnerable groups, from violence in detention. 🔗 Learn more about the project at https://lnkd.in/etWWXTdd #ChildRights #DataDrivenJustice #ViolencePrevention
