Building the Metaverse City: A 6G-Enabled Digital Twin Platform I had the honor of speaking on Panel at IEEE Virtual Conference on Communications: "6G for Connected Smart Cities in the Metaverse Age" at the IEEE International Conference on 6G and Smart Cities. The session explored how 6G, Digital Twins, and the Metaverse can work together to revolutionize urban development, making cities more immersive, efficient, and connected. From citizen engagement and virtual tourism to emergency response training and collaborative urban planning, the potential for innovation is truly inspiring. A special thank you to our incredible moderator, Prof. Periklis Chatzimisios, for guiding the conversation so effectively, and to my fellow panelists for sharing their insights and expertise: Narcís Cardona, Isabel De Peuter-Rutten, Marios Nicolaou. We discussed critical topics like AR/VR/MR, edge computing, network slicing, security challenges, and societal impacts of 6G-enabled smart cities in the metaverse age. This panel, endorsed by one6G Association, Euromersive , and the HORIZON-2022-WIDERA project MetaCities Excellence Hub in South-Eastern Europe, was a testament to how collaboration and innovation are driving the future of urban living. In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women last week, we want to highlight an important yet often overlooked issue: street harassment. Violence against women takes many forms, but street harassment is one of the most common. It normalizes the objectification of women’s bodies and perpetuates unsafe public spaces. To address this issue effectively, we must tackle the significant underreporting gap in street harassment. Without this data, the true scope and impact of this behavior remain hidden. At SafeTogether App (available on Android) and Bånded, we are working to close this gap. Our apps provide an accessible platform for reporting incidents, connecting with trusted networks, and fostering community support. By gathering data from those who experience street harassment, we aim to illustrate its widespread nature, empower individuals to alert others, and bring communities together to create safer public spaces.
