Today, we were present at the Malieveld in The Hague. Students and staff are saying NO against the planned budgets cuts in higher education and research. While the government often cites ‘innovation’ as a solution to many challenges, at the same time, they are undermining the foundation of our knowledge economy. The impact of these cuts will be significant, not only for higher education but for all of the Netherlands. A brain drain could have far-reaching consequences, and we cannot afford to let that happen, as our President Annelien Bredenoord states in Algemeen Dagblad today. ✍🏽 Sign the petition: https://lnkd.in/evE-WKmY 🟥 Read the full interview with Annelien Bredenoord: https://lnkd.in/edhp7whi We’re proud to raise our voices together for the future of higher education and our knowledge economy! #higereducation #Research #Petition #TheHague #Innovation #ErasmusUniversity #International #HogerOnderwijs #Wetenschap #Petitie #DenHaag #Malieveld #Innovatie #ErasmusUniversity #Internationaal

International Office - Erasmus University Rotterdam heeft dit gerepost
After weeks of hard work yesterday it was finally happening: the Connecting Cultures Festival. A festival to celebrate the different nationalies and cultures at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam during the Week of the International Student (#WoTIS). In collaboration with Studium Generale, the International Office - Erasmus University Rotterdam organized a food fair, workshops, a theatre show and a photo exhibition. With 25 associations and 900 visitors, the food fair was twice as big as last year, and what a great success it was. The food was very tasty, the brass band was a major highlight and the whole atmosphere was just GREAT! It made me very proud of our international student community. Until next year?! 🌎 #wotis #erasmusuniversityrotterdam #connectingculturesfestival

Stand with Dutch higher education! 📢 Today, we were ready to make our voices heard in a powerful demonstration against the budget cuts to the university sector, proposed in the Dutch government’s recent budget announcement. With thousands of students, academics, and staff, we had the chance to send a strong message to our government. Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, the protest has been cancelled. Annelien Bredenoord, Chair of the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam, rightly calls these cuts "penny wise, pound foolish". The impact is direct: young scientists, talented students, and hard-working employees all face increased workloads, fewer opportunities, and potential job losses. Moreover, they are single-handedly destroying the strong reputation and top position that the Netherlands has as a knowledge economy. Postponement does not mean abandonment. While we prepare for another demonstration, let's make our point loud and clear by calling on everyone to sign the petition! ✔️

On October 22nd, our international master's students who received a scholarship from the Erasmus Trustfonds were welcomed to the fund by Renate Buijze, the adjunct director. International office colleague Mirjam de Groot had the pleasure to join as well. With a €15.000 scholarship, these students - representing diverse nationalities and backgrounds - are now pursuing master’s degrees at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. This scholarship enables them to invest in their education and ambitions for the future. A special shoutout goes to our colleagues and students who took part in the #ErasmusCharityRun during the marathon of Rotterdam. This helped fund some of these scholarships. 🏃♀️ #ErasmusTrustfonds #ErasmusUniversityRotterdam #Scholarships

Last Thursday, we hosted the Erasmus Goes Abroad Fair, giving students the chance to explore study and internship opportunities abroad. 🌍 The event featured faculty-led sessions, student panels, and information on scholarships. Students also had the opportunity to speak with exchange officers, student representatives, and experts from various organizations involved in going abroad, allowing them to gather all the information they need for their upcoming adventures abroad. Congratulations to the lucky winners of the A.A. van Beekfonds scholarships via Erasmus Trustfonds, who won €1100, €700, and €350 to support their experience abroad. While their destinations are still to be determined, one thing is for sure: it will be an unforgettable and educational adventure!
