The program is now live, featuring an impressive line-up of topics and speakers, all skillfully moderated by Camilla Brox. 🏭 We’re proud to have our CCO, Kenneth Juul, taking the stage to share our journey towards developing and operating our first full-scale carbon capture plant at a waste incineration facility in Rakkestad, Norway. As a CCUS company, we are committed to finding the most sustainable and economically viable solutions for the CO₂ we capture—whether through storage or utilization. One exciting path we’re exploring is contributing to a circular economy by reusing CO₂ in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). ✈️ At the conference, we’ll join a panel discussion on the future of SAF alongside Martine Mørk from Miljøstiftelsen ZERO and Ida Larsen from our industry partner, Norsk e-Fuel. We’re excited about engaging in inspiring conversations and building new connections. Let’s shape the future of CCUS together—see you there! #CCUS #CarbonCapture #eSAF

It requires no modifications to infrastructure or aircraft engines, making it ready to use today. But while the technology is here, the supply isn’t – yet. With the EU’s upcoming blend mandates, SAF production needs to scale up significantly to meet demand. By 2025, a 2% blend is required, increasing to 70% by 2050. This is an enormous challenge, as the necessary investments are not being made today due to high financial risks. As highlighted in a recent article in Teknisk Ukeblad by Avinor, NHO, and Miljøstiftelsen ZERO, Norway has the means and resources to take a leading role in SAF production. However, this potential can only be realized if the industry receives: 1️⃣Strong demand-side incentives 2️⃣Regulatory risk mitigation through stable, clear policies At 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜, we fully support the call for both incentives and robust regulatory frameworks. Earlier this week, we voiced our perspective during the public consultation on proposed amendments to the Emissions Trading Regulation by the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet). Specifically, we emphasized: ✅The urgent implementation of the Renewable Energy Directive in Norway ✅The necessity of exempting sustainable fuels from surrendering allowances under the EU ETS, provided they meet sustainability and emission reduction criteria. 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. Incentives and regulations must be implemented today to secure the SAF production we need for tomorrow. Let’s work together to transition from a fossil fuel-driven economy to a global leader in sustainable aviation! • 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 – 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? 🌍 Carbon markets play a pivotal role in the fight against climate change. As a carbon capture actor, this is at the heart of what we do at Carbon Centric. There are two main types of carbon markets: 1️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹 𝗖𝗢𝟮 – 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀: Markets for fossil CO2 operate within compliance systems governed by strict regulatory frameworks, such as the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). Under the EU ETS, a price is set on CO2 by capping the total allowable emissions and requiring companies to trade allowances for every ton of CO2 they emit. By pricing emissions, the system incentivizes reductions where it is most cost-effective. 2️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗢𝟮 – 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 (𝗩𝗖𝗠): Today, biogenic CO2 is traded on a voluntary market. This market allows biogenic CO2 credits to be traded. These credits generate income for activities that reduce, avoid, or remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Approx. 4% of the credits in today’s voluntary market represent carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Carbon removal is critical to achieving the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal. Scaling solutions like BECCS (Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage) will be essential, but challenges such as regulatory gaps, infrastructure limitations, and high costs remain. Want to learn more about how carbon markets can drive a sustainable future? We’d love to share insights – let’s start the conversation! #CarbonCapture #CarbonMarkets #Sustainability #GreenTech #CCUS

  • 🌍 𝗖𝗖𝗦: 𝗔 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲   Torhild Rossum and Rebecka Kalnes had the opportunity to attend the CCS Pit Stop 2024 event hosted by Polyteknisk Forening. At the event, the panels had interesting discussions on the pivotal role of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).   Here are some of our key takeaways from the event:   🔑 CCS is essential for decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries. It is the only viable solution for sectors that are otherwise difficult to transition to low emissions.   ⚖️ Support mechanisms are needed to strengthen the entire CCS value chain. The "chicken and egg" dilemma remains: carbon credit buyers require assurance that projects will proceed, while project developers need to sell credits to move forward. More predictable market conditions and building essential infrastructure are critical.   🌱 The importance of the VCM. Project developers are relying on Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM) to help fund their projects, and harmonized standards and supportive regulation is needed. Carbon removals will have a key role in strategies for companies to meet their climate goals.   🤝 We are making headway. Progress made in northern Europe shows that CCS is becoming a reality. Projects across the full value chain are being developed.   The CCS Pit Stop is an excellent initiative, offering great inspiration and serving as a valuable meeting point. It’s something we hope to see continue in the future. Thank you for having us.   The journey towards a low-emission future continues, and Carbon Centric is proud to be part of this transformative shift!   #CCS #ClimateAction #CarbonCapture #Sustainability #NetZero #Innovation #GreenTransition #CCSPartnerships

  • "Ø𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗹" – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 Ø𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟱𝟬? Yesterday evening, representatives from Østfold’s local business community gathered to discuss pathways to a more sustainable future. Our thanks to Tekna and Norwegian Centre of Circular Economy (NCCE) for organizing “Østfold i kula”, a truly inspiring event, and to Camilla Brox for enthusiastically guiding us through the evening. The event showcased many exciting solutions to pressing challenges—including greenhouse gas reduction, sustainable food production, and waste management—presented by companies from Østfold, a region in southeastern Norway. We are proud that Carbon Centric was one of two winners selected to share our vision for a sustainable future in Østfold. Even more so, we’re thrilled that our own Rebecka Kalnes both authored and presented this vision after just a few months in her new role as Carbon Removal Advisor with us. We’re so glad to have you on the team, Rebecka! It’s no secret that we envision numerous carbon capture facilities across Norway and beyond, capturing and storing large volumes of CO₂ by 2050. But we also hope that by then, we’ll have developed even more efficient, scalable solutions that drastically reduce costs, making green technology profitable. This would enable us to reduce emissions while capturing enough CO₂ to reach net zero and restore the atmospheric CO₂ balance. There’s no doubt that Østfold holds great potential for growth and change. With a strong network of greentech companies and dedicated individuals, we’re ready to take on the challenge. As emphasized by Stian Melhus from Smart Innovation Norway, who presented the second vision on stage, local collaboration is essential—a sentiment widely shared among attendees. However, we also need political incentives and supportive regulatory frameworks to truly accelerate our progress! #CCUS #bærekraft #carboncapture #innovation

  • Carbon Centric la ut dette på nytt

Hvordan ser Østfold ut i 2050? #CCUS #CarbonCapture #Innovation
