African nations have a unique opportunity to leapfrog traditional energy models and adopt cleaner, more sustainable solutions. At the forefront of Africa’s energy transition are renewable energy systems, which include solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power. These technologies are becoming increasingly affordable and viable, offering an opportunity to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Mohammed Soliu Dare Akogun #Africa #EnergyTransition #Technology

In a year when BloombergNEF reported 150 GW of new total solar installations, a 35 % growth, Africa continues to fall behind. According to the data collected by AFSIA (Africa Solar Industry Association) (which does not include households), Africa added added 2,5 GW of new solar PV, equal to only 1,5 % of the worlds growth. Africa's solar market actually declined 30 % compared to the numbers reported by AFSIA for 2023, mainly due to the fluctuations in South Africa. Nevertheless, South Africa and Egypt accounted for almost 80 % of all new PV solar power installed in 2024. On the optimistic side, AFSIA reports a significant increase in the pipeline of announced new projects in development. On the positive side, the market for PV for Commercial and Industrial (C &I) energy users continued to grow, albeit from a relatively low level. In Nigeria, Marocco, Kenya and Ghana Empower New Energy 's 13 new C & I installations connected in 2024 represented a significant share of total solar and battery investments for C & I customers in these markets. To sum up: Africa has the the largest power deficit worldwide. With 60 % of the world's solar resources, it's a shame the continent receives only 1,5 % of solar investments. We need to do better than that in 2025! We are proud to announce the completion of the 507 kWp roof and carport mounted Solar PV installation for the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) in Accra, following the 15-year contract signed between the parties last year. As a beacon of technological innovation, National Information Technology Agency(NITA) Ghana is the ICT policy implementing arm of the Ministry of Communications. This Solar PV installation will also power NITA's Data Centre facility, a crucial feature of the country's communication infrastructure network. This project is developed and constructed in partnership with RIFE Energy Ghana and Tino Solutions, and is projected to generate 696,000 kWh per year, reducing NITAs energy costs and CO2 emissions.
