With the right setup, energy storage can add value in many layers. Our 800 kWh delivery to C. Christoffersen together with TGN Energy is a great example of this 🔋 Through TGN FlexControl and inverters from KACO new energy, the customer can adjust the battery operation to maximize its value by pulling one of several value levers: ☀️ Stores surplus solar power from C. Christoffersen's 412 bi-facial solar panels. This both lowers energy costs and minimizes losses. 📉 Lowers peak demand through peak shaving, lowering the utility tariff. ⚡️ Participates in the flexibility market to support the local grid, earning money from increasing or decreasing demand. 💵 Shifting demand to utilize lower energy prices. 🔒 Increases energy security. The battery is large enough to power C. Christoffersen's operations for one full day, ensuring stable operations. What is State of Charge (SoC), and why does it matter? SoC is a critical measure for understanding how much charge remains in a battery, but defining it can be tricky. The actual operational window is only limited by the maximum and minimum voltage. However, within this window we want to look at the available charge we have left. So, do we base SoC on the charge or the voltage? Both are important. From a safety standpoint, it’s crucial to monitor voltage, because operating outside certain voltage limits can damage the battery or even pose safety risks. This can be done by defining SoC-levels at certain resting voltages, like we see on the plot below. However, from a usability perspective, knowing the remaining charge is equally essential — it tells you how much energy you can still extract from your battery. It has been a fun challenge to solve this duality at Evyon - combining safety and remaining charge into one holistic SoC tool. Our in-house algorithm maximizes performance beyond what industry standard SoC calculations offer while ensuring our customers have systems that operate safely and reliably.
