Their state-of-the-art fish farming technology can revolutionize the fish farming industry. ♻️ In only four years the company has developed a revolutionary new fish farming technology, “The Watermoon.” A closed and submerged pen solves the sea lice problem as the closed barrier protects the lice from entering the fish environment, and also protects the fish from other predators and jelly fish. The project also reduces coastal environmental pressures and enhances fish welfare. 🦈 The Watermoon unit design ensures large volumes of high-quality water and improved living conditions for the fish—key factors in producing a new unique standard of premium-quality salmon. At site in Hardangerfjorden, the first generation of salmon is almost ready to be slaughtered. Eide Fjordbruk’s goal is to replicate the model globally, adapting it to other marine environments to help meet the world’s growing demand for protein while protecting ocean ecosystems. Perspective. Grit. Vision. This motto for Øygarden framed the topics at Øygardskonferansen 2024, showcasing a region with a position in the future global challenges. Øygarden kommune, with close to 40 000 inhabitants, stretches across a chain of islands off Bergen’s west coast.  This coastal and island-based geography positions Øygarden as a significant area for both traditional fishing and modern energy sectors, especially offshore oil and gas. Oil and gas have been an important part of the economy for 50 years. But Øygarden is promoting a transition to green and sustainable industries. Today the pinnacle is Northern Lights, the CO2 capture and storage facility at Kollsnes. They are a global frontrunner in carbon management technology, set up to handle 800 000 tons of carbon. However, even this facility, currently Europe’s largest full scale carbon capture facility, can only process what is 15 minutes of the total global emissions. But Øygarden is not only supply the services of carbon capture – they also export knowledge and technology. The facility has received more than 10 000 visitors, and shared their experience both in building the complete value chain needed and the technology needed for storing carbon safely. Thanks to the community of Øygarden for a great conference and for sharing their ambition to create a model of sustainable community development that can benefit not only the local area but also offer scalable solutions to national and international issues.
