Hip hip hurray! This week we attended the ship christening of Zulu 06, SOGESTRAN Group’s new low-emission, #fuelcell powered barge, built to serve on the river Seine in Paris, France. For inner-city transportation especially, the use of hydrogen fuel cells and batteries to power vessels can contribute to significant reduction of local emissions. By 2030, the city of Paris aims to reduce greenhouse gas emission by 50%, and their carbon footprint by 40%. Low-emission river transportation like Zulu 06 can play a key part in reaching that goal. As one of 11 consortium partners, ABB Marine & Ports has been responsible for the power system integration and power management onboard. The vessel marks an important milestone, moving from our first fuel cell technology demonstrator in 2017 to this first full-size commercial ship installation. #Maritime is electrifying, and we are enabling the revolution! Congratulations to owner Sogestran for taking the leap and being the first mover, to the EU for providing significant funding to ensure the implementation of new and cleaner ways to power vessels in Europe and to our consortium partners for bringing Zulu 06 to life together with us! Today Maritime CleanTech is in the spotlight as part of our social media campaign "Meet our members". Maritime CleanTech represents one of the world’s most complete maritime commercial hubs. They build bridges across companies, governments, and R&D to speed up the green transition in shipping. In collaboration with over 150 partners stretching across the maritime value chain, they establish green and groundbreaking projects with global commercial potential. Maritime CleanTech uses the Norwegian maritime expertise, built up over generations, as a springboard for developing energy-efficient and sustainable technologies. They are leading several international projects to pilot the use of wind, hydrogen, ammonia, and LOHC technology to cut emissions both in offshore and deep-sea operations. They are also involved in developing new value chains with the producers of green energy carriers and focus strongly on shaping policies to accelerate decarbonization. “Through strong EU partnerships, Maritime CleanTech and partners develop global green solutions for maritime activities. Our WaterborneTP partnership further strengthens our commitment to sustainable shipping. We're actively collaborating to enhance the priorities for cleaner technologies at the forefront of European innovation", says CEO Ada Martine Jakobsen.
