Last week we spent some exciting days in Delft, Natural State was represented by Cathrine Barth 😊 This was the third plenary meeting with CEN/TC 473 Circular Economy, a two year project that was started this year and will be delivered at the end of 2026. So many nice discussions in the time to come!

Forrige uke var vi med på en serie i kompetanseløft for Næring, plan og innovasjon for Vestland fylkeskommune 👏 Vår egen Cathrine Barth holdt foredrag, og vi ble imponert over en gruppe med svært godt engasjement. 🌟 Tuesday night we wrapped up Nordic circular summit!!!🌟 .. But we still had some eventful days to come in Helsinki. Here are some highlights from our days at Slush: -      We had the pleasure of meeting @Viikki FOOD DESIGN FACTORY and Laura Forsman, where we not only shared our insights on food systems but also enjoyed a lovely breakfast meeting to exchange valuable knowledge. -      We also caught up our friends Anna C W De Matos at Circular Library Network -      Big congrats to Nima Salami and OASYS NOW for winning the Slush 100 Startup competition! 🎉 Thank you, Helsinki, for a week filled with insights, connections, and inspiration. The fifth annual Nordic Circular Summit has come to a close, and what an incredible experience it has been! Over November 18th & 19th, we welcomed nearly 500 attendees in person and over 2,000 joining us online from more than 60 countries. A huge thank you to all who participated! We at Natural State are proud to be one of the managing partners of Nordic Circular Hotspot - which our very own Cathrine Barth Co-founded as an initiative in 2018 - and to have co-hosted this remarkable event alongside Cradlenet in Sweden, Lifestyle & Design Cluster in Denmark, Festa - Center for Sustainability in Iceland, and MiXi Center and Business Finland as our local partners in Finland. This year’s theme, “The Enterprise of Circular Economy,” sparked vital discussions on enlightened entrepreneurship and how we can close the Nordic circular economy gaps. Our own Einar Kleppe Holthe also participated in an insightful session on New Nature Value, showcasing how nature’s regenerative processes can inspire sustainable business practices. He presented the Natural State method – where values of place, inform a holistic and sustainable #placeeconomy. First we look at the natural value, and then human value, and societal value, before defining market value and economic potential. Opposite to today’s system, where we are defining marked value first, we set nature first, as core principle and practice. And it’s all about this order. We must prioritize nature in every market enterprise and governance system. And in this paradigm shift circular approach is not just beneficial, but inevitable. ♻️ Nordic Circular Summit 2024 The Nordic Circular Summit is the largest conference focused on circular economy in the Nordics. It has established itself as an annual gathering where policymakers and business leaders come together to explore the extensive circular opportunities available in this area. The event presents more than 20 sessions which includes talks and panels, both physical and digital, on circular economy. This year, we are looking further into the enlightened entrepreneurship for evolving the new circular market in the Nordic and beyond. Co-hosted by Nordic Circular Hotspot and Nordic Innovation, the conference also serves as an official side event of the World Circular Economy Forum. The Nordic Circular Hotspot is an ambitious project, where five different countries, with five different languages and different market cultures, gathers around one idea: to accelerate the transition from a linear to a circular economy in the Nordics. This requires strong collaboration across borders, industries, segments, sectors and silos. It also requires systematic change in entire value chains, which takes time and great effort! ♻️ Understanding Circular Economy What exactly is a circular economy, and how does it differ from the traditional linear economy? In conventional 'take-make-waste' models, raw materials are extracted, turned into products, and discarded after use, creating a linear economy where materials move in one direction. In contrast, a circular economy aims to minimize waste by keeping resources in use for as long as possible. It emphasizes the optimal use of materials while allowing natural systems to regenerate. More than just recycling, a circular economy represents a comprehensive approach to resource management, enabling a society that is more sustainable, renewable, and environmentally friendly. ♻️ The fifth annual Nordic Circular Summit Nordic Circular Summit 2024 represents a step toward closing the gaps in the Nordic circular economy. By bringing together entrepreneurs, startups, policymakers, and business leaders, we have the opportunity to explore innovative solutions and share experiences that can drive a sustainable future.
