We are running fast these days! 2024 is coming to an end. This year is different - we are not just finalizing a year, but a chapter in our organizational history! Our current programs have come to an end and from 2025 we will start working on new initiatives. These days we have been busy bringing our minds together to develop new ideas for the years to come. And with just around 1.800 days left to make the Nordics the most sustainable and integrated region in the world as stated in Vision 2030, we are busy! Are you our new supplier for our AI and Data program? Nordic Innovation is looking for a project manager to do a mapping of the Nordic-Baltic quantum ecosystem. The project manager will also produce use cases illustrating how the technology can be used by businesses, and deliver recommendations for targeted Nordic and Baltic measures and instruments with a focus on opportunities for Nordic businesses' growth, innovation and commercialization. "The Nordics have a solid foundation in the quantum field through world-class research, some of the leading companies and great national initiatives supporting the ecosystem. However, as small nations with limited resources, we need to deepen collaboration and find synergies to secure a frontunner position in the quantum race," says Ville Mäkinen about the new initiative. This Autumn we welcomed Jens Oldgard as a new member of team-Nordic Innovation. 🎈 🎉 Jens Oldgard began his position as Senior Advisor of Strategy and Governance in September 2024. He will among others follow up on result reporting, develop strategies and projects, manage evaluation processes and follow up on projects. He will work closely with the Secretariat of the Nordic Council of Ministers in Copenhagen. Although Jens is new to Nordic Innovation, he is in many ways a veteran in the #Nordic Co-operation. Last week, our advisor Rasmus Malmborg took part in the #Nordic Sustainable Construction Symposium, which marked an end to Nordic Innovation's current work within sustainable construction. The aim of the Sustainable Construction program - coordinated in collaboration with the Danish Authority of Social Services and Housing - has been to make the #Nordics a leading region in sustainable and competitive construction and housing with minimized environmental and climate impact. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to celebrate and reflect on the advancements made in sustainable and competitive construction practices. Rasmus Malmborg talked about Nordic Innovation's work on integrating circular thinking into the business models of #Nordic construction companies and their value chains. As a final delivery, a new toolbox has been developed providing stakeholders with knowledge, concrete tools and inspiration needed to build a greener construction industry. The main topic of the meeting was Smart Cities and entrepreneurial innovation, and the purpose was to exchange knowledge and ideas and to discuss collaboration opportunities. Today we celebrate the National Day of Finland! 🎉 🎈 The day marks the declaration of independence from Russia in 1917. The celebrations begin with flag-raising at Helsinki’s Tähtitorninmäki park followed by a ceremony at the Helsinki Cathedral with attendance from state leaders and government officials. Military parades, students in torchlight processions and an Independence Day reception at the Presidential Palace are also a part of the celebrations. We wish you a happy National Day, Finland!

Startups are a necessity for having scaleups and Scaleups are a necessity for value creation! The message was clear today when our Managing Director Svein Berg spoke about the importance of scale-ups for the #Nordic countries at Open Innovation Lab of Norway's December meet up. “We need to create a common #Nordic value proposition for the semiconductor industry!” Today, more than 60 people were gathered in Helsinki for the first #Nordic Chip Collaboration meeting! Nordic Chip Collaboration is a new initiative aiming to enhance collaboration within the #Nordic semiconductor industry ecosystem, strengthening the region’s position in the global semiconductor market, and contributing to a greener and more sustainable industry. Today’s meeting looked into the current semiconductor landscape with insights into Europe’s strengths, weaknesses and position within the global value chain. And the session “This is the Nordics” discussed the state of the semiconductor industries and national initiatives in Finland, Sweden and Norway. 👉 Did you know that the Finnish semiconductor industry consists of 90 companies and employs around 7.000 people? 🤔 A panel discussed concrete collaboration opportunities across the Nordic semiconductor’s ecosystem including collaboration on attraction and education of skilled labor and talents, standardization on reporting, sustainability strategies, the creation of a competence center and attraction of VC capital. This week, Nordic Innovation's board was gathered in Oslo for the last meeting of the year! The meeting did not only conclude 2024, but it marked in many ways an end of our current mission - since 2020, we have worked with eight programs and three special initiatives. From green mobility to health tech, we have initiated a wide range of innovation projects with one clear goal in mind - to make the Nordics the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030! 🌍 The board members were introduced to the milestones of each of the programs from the past four years. With feedback such as - "really good results", "great examples of Nordic cooperation", "several projects has potential to be continued within the new programs" - we are ready to turn the page and enter the next chapter! The next board meeting takes place in February - with a new mission for Nordic Innovation! We will share more information about that soon!
