  • 🚢 USA and Constellation Class shortlisted for Norway’s Armed Forces.   At today’s press conference, Norway's Minister of Defence, Bjørn Arild Gram, unveiled the shortlist for the country’s acquisition of frigates, highlighting four of Norway’s closest allies: France, Great Britain, Germany, and the USA.    The Constellation-class frigate, chosen by the U.S. Navy and based on the FREMM platform developed by VARD’s owner, FINCANTIERI, is among the contenders. This design embodies decades of expertise in naval engineering, offering advanced capabilities and strategic alignment with Norway’s defense needs.   Ronny Opsjøn Langset, Yard Director at Vard Langsten and Head of the Governmental Defence Program, states: - We are ready and fully equipped to build these frigates in Norway. Building them locally will result in shorter lead and delivery times, while also minimizing risks. Additionally, compatibility with our closest ally will be crucial for operational patterns, operations, and maintenance.   The final decision is expected next year, and we’re proud to stand ready to support Norway’s future naval ambitions.   #shipbuilding #constellationclass #norwaydefense

  • Bringing the world's leading frigate expertise to Norway. 🌟   Today, Oslo hosts the Fincantieri Industry Days, a milestone event aimed at exploring opportunities for Norwegian industry in the potential construction of next-generation frigates for the Royal Norwegian Navy.    The event opened with Ken Braithwaite, former Ambassador to Norway and the 77th Secretary of the US Navy, who emphasized the close ties between Norway and the United States, calling Norway the U.S.’s closest ally. He also highlighted that the Constellation-class frigates are the backbone of the U.S. Navy, underscoring their strategic importance and operational advantages. «Fincantieri and VARD's American solution makes Norway part of the world's largest frigate family. Equally important is that Norway is already part of the AEGIS and Sea Hawk families, which are already on board most platforms in the world's most prominent navy. The operational advantages are many for both the USA and Norway,» says Ronny Opsjøn Langset, Head of the Governmental Defence Program in Vard Group.   Together with Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG), Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon, VARD is committed to creating a strong industrial cooperation plan. With our sister company FMG already building Constellation-class frigates for the U.S., VARD is the natural choice for leading similar projects in Norway.   🌎 Our seamless approach combines global expertise with local execution. Hull construction will take place at VARD Shipyard Romania, Tulcea, with outfitting and commissioning at Vard Langsten in Norway, ensuring a streamlined process that supports local capabilities and the Norwegian economy.   Stay tuned as we continue charting the course for Norway’s next-generation frigates!   Roar Gjerde | Kristian Sætre | Ståle Pedersen | David Forster, MBA, MS | John Lehman | Ronny Opsjøn Langset | Ambassador Kenneth J “KJ” Braithwaite #shipbuilding #Industrialcooperation #VARD #Fincantieri #Constellationclassfrigates
