Best Thesis, 2019 Barcelona | Best Tea, 2024 Las Vegas Story time: How Chiya by Siddhadevi Tea Started (Part 1 of 2) Chiya by Siddhadevi, is based on my own undergraduate thesis in 2019, titled “#SocialEntrepreneurship in #Tea Farming in #Ilam, #Nepal”, which focused on lack of #women farmer empowerment and opportunity, in a traditionally male-dominated country (Nepal) and male-dominated industry (Tea). My research on #teafarming in Nepal in 2019 eventually led to me to have deeper understanding of lack of #womenempowerment in the Nepal’s farming industry and dig deep into lack of recognition as well as opportunity for women workforce in a traditionally male-dominated country (Nepal) as well as male-dominated industry (Tea). The aim of my research was to focus on three important factors, Women enpowerment, #sustainable value chain, and economic development of Phakphokthum and Nepal through export. Fastforward to 2020 where we created a team of women farmers and founded #Chiya by SiddhaDevi Tea in 2020, #organic #orthodox #singleorigin Nepali tea estate, only one year after my thesis compeltion. In just 4 years, we became the first and only #nepalitea to win #grandprize at #worldteaexpo in #lasvegas in 2024. The brand name was kept Chiya (चिया ) litetally translating to tea in Nepali language, so as to represent the country’s agriculture jewel, tea from the hills of Ilam.
