  • What a fun day yesterday at Auckland's Round the Bays event. Dozens of AOR people and their families donned our "Train With Us" t-shirts for the 8.4km run/jog/walk and then celebrated with a fantastic bbq at the end. Thanks to the organising team, tagged in photos below - especially bbq-er extraordinaire Norman Ngatai and the phenomenal Casey Freed who singlehandedly stocked us with food for the day, even purchasing fresh food on the day before completing the race! Thanks to everyone for a great day! #funrun #trainwithus #aucklandtrains #oneteam

  • Did you know that the first test train through the City Rail Link Ltd tunnel was covered in polystyrene padding? Strips were temporarily fitted to increase the test train's width, simulating full speed travel to make sure the train doesn't come in to contact with anything in the tunnel. More than 600 metres of cabling has also gone in to the test train to connect cameras and other hardware needed to monitor the underside of the train. https://lnkd.in/gEDGJiqb #aucklandtransport #tunnel #testtrain #metrotrains

  • Congratulations to our Operational Readiness Lead Grant Dowie who successfully drove the first City Rail Link Ltd test train through the tunnels last week. He was interviewed just before he made the 3.45-kilometre-long inaugural journey south from Waitematā Station (Britomart) under central Auckland past the new underground stations at Te Waihorotiu and Karanga-a-Hape to Maungawhau Station on the Western/North Auckland Line. There will 8300 separate tests prior to opening in 2026 Next step: training the rest of our drivers! https://lnkd.in/gnvSC8Gz Auckland Transport KiwiRail #locomotiveengineers #testing #tunnels

  • Did you hear The Breeze radio presenters Robert Rakete and Jeanette Thomas broadcasting live from the "Love Train" this morning? Our Head of Learning & Capability Frances Burke and Customer Service Ambassador carlenna green hopped on the Southern Line service from Waitematā (Britomart) to Pukekohe (return trip) briefly and shared a laugh with The Breeze team. We have so much talent at AOR we're thinking of starting our own radio station now! Thanks to Auckland Transport and MediaWorks NZ for organising. #radio #live #tamakimakaurau #southernline #lovetrain

  • Success! We are beyond excited that the first CRL test train made it's first successful trip last night thanks to our driver Grant Dowie and CRL Director Louise Pengelly's team, including Mark Jones, Michael Kuhn, Joel O'Dea, Paul James and many others. Our drivers will spend the next several months training in the new tunnels - learning the routes and signalling. We're also working on expanding our team of customer service team leaders and ambassadors to man the additional stations. There's a lot to plan and prep for - we look forward to keeping you up-to-date as things progress. #cityraillink #progress #metrorail #tamakimakaurau #milestone

A big day for CRL. A test train has made its first trip through the full length of a CRL tunnel. Our Chief Executive, Patrick Brockie, calls it a colossal milestone – a goal since we started construction. A comment echoed by our sponsors, the Crown and Auckland Council. The CEO acknowledged the work of his CRL Ltd team, the project’s main Link Alliance KiwiRail Auckland Transport and Auckland One Rail for the achievement. The 3.45-kilometre-long journey ran south from Waitematā Station (Britomart) under central Auckland to Maungawhau Station on the Western/North Auckland Line. The three-carriage train left Waitematā station on time at 9pm last night and took two-and-a-half hours to complete its first journey. The speed was deliberately slow – around five kilometres an hour – allowing technicians to complete their first round of underground checks and balances relating to tunnel clearance, power supply and signalling.  The train successfully completed five trips during the night.  We’re dealing with 25 thousand volts of electricity so exhaustive safety checks were needed before the train could run. Safety is our number one priority. After the first success, the train can pick up speed and more trains can enter the tunnels. There’s a lot more to do this year before we can open in 2026 including testing complex tunnel ventilation systems, tunnel supervision and security, lighting and 5G mobile services. • This year has started on a great note for AOR as we welcome two key people "onboard" our leadership team. Louise Pengelly has joined us as our new Director CRL Operations and Catherine Laskey has joined us as our new Chief Financial Officer. Louise brings more than 20-years’ experience in strategy development and programme management, having led large and complex commercial initiatives across aviation, airport infrastructure and rail. Most recently, she served as Programme Director for Operations Transformation at KiwiRail, and prior to that, was at Air New Zealand working on the Auckland Airport Terminal Development programme. Louise also spent two decades in the UK, working in programme management at Heathrow Airport before transitioning into rail. Throughout her career, Louise has contributed to major projects such as the West Coast Route Modernisation and the Hitachi Rail manufacturing unit in the UK. She is also a Board member for the Civil Aviation Authority. Catherine has been with Kordia Group Limited, most recently as Group Chief Financial Officer having started there as a Financial Accountant in 2004. Before that role she worked at Young & Rubicam Advertising and Arthur Andersen (New Zealand and Canada). Catherine is also a Member of the Institute of Directors New Zealand. Please join us in welcoming both Louise and Catherine. #welcomeonboard #leaders #onerail #topteam

  • As our Chief Operations Officer Gavin Panter FCIRO FCILT says, hats off to the unstoppable team of Vince Ah Kuoi and Danielle Ah Kuoi who had everything in place at the new Pukekohe book-on depot for our train crews, supported by the depot supervisors. They've put in so much hard work to make it a very special space. Shout out also to the wider driving team who are ensuring drivers are ready to run the timetable in full and all of those involved in the lead up to 'P2P' (Pukekohe to Papakura) reopening. Thanks also goes out to: Safety, Assets, Customer Experience, People and Culture and the commercial and financial teams along with the project teams that bring it all together and make sure we are working as "one team". Thanks Gavin for this behind-the-scenes look at AOR operations. #trainoperations #metrorail #pukekohe #topteam

With the dust settling on the first day of Auckland One Rail operations on the newly extended electrified line to Pukekohe, it’s been a busy couple of days of media/PR events as well as kicking off the service, early this morning. Of course there has been an immense amount of work that has gone in to get that operation up and running and it’s been a pleasure to see the teams come together to achieve that. After handover over the renewed line from Papakura to Pukekohe by KiwiRail last week, a herculean effort has begun to train all our drivers to learn the alterations that have occurred and be fully competent on the route. Although this continues, it’s been a fantastic start and only good planning by the team has enabled that. Naturally that challenge continues as we concentrate on drivers from our our northern and western depots and it’s fair to say the plan is under constant monitoring and review, but remains firmly on track! But those train crew need a place to book on, get their notices and bulletins to digest, as well as have a suitable area for breaks. Having been handed over by Auckland Transport, it was great to see the new depot facility, fully furnished, this morning at 0345. But furniture is just the start. Getting the whole depot ‘operationally fit’ has been the task of the week and to be able to have it looking spick and span is testament to our fine driving team. It is fair to say a great deal of proverbial ‘blood sweat and tears’ have been spilt right up to the departure of that first train this morning and often doesn’t get seen at media events. So, hats off this morning to Vince Ah Kuoi and Danielle Ah Kuoi who had everything in place and supported by the depot supervisors oversaw a smooth morning book on. To the wider driving team who are ensuring that the driving team are suitably competent to run the timetable in full and all of those involved in the lead up to this event. Of course coming together as one is the mantra of Auckland One Rail and hence the Safety, Assets, Customer and People and Culture teams have all played more than their part in getting this across the line. Not forgetting of course the commercial and financial teams along with the project teams making it all happen. #auckland #aucklandonerail #aucklandtransport #kiwirail #pukekohe

  • History was made this morning when the FIRST EVER electric passenger train departed from Pukekohe Station at 05:11, travelling to Waitematā (Britomart). Onboard crew were driver Dion Lynch and train manager Cameron. Also taking the historic trip were local Franklin Ward Councillor Andrew (Andy) Baker, AOR CEO Martin Kearney and COO Gavin Panter FCIRO FCILT (not pictured). Meanwhile, other members of the senior leadership team Lisa D'Oliveira, Louise Pengelly and Gary Ryan travelled in the opposite direction, taking the first train at 05:30 from Waitematā (Britomart) Station, to Pukekohe. They spent time at Pukekohe welcoming customers back to their local community station after a 2.5 year break while works to electrify the Pukekohe to Papakura train track were completed. It was an exciting day for AOR teams and our customers, who are very happy to have access to their local station again! #earlymorning #metrorail #pukekohe #community

Xmas Day - a day for taking time out with family and reminiscing on all the things that have happened in the year. Well - that’s what happens when you have usually ‘wrapped’ up a service for Xmas and Boxing Day shutdowns. so that’s too many years to remember in the UK rail industry. Not so here in Auckland - two firsts for me - travelled on a bus on Xmas Day (15min service to the city) and then travelled on a train on Xmas Day. So, many thanks to those who gave up their time to get others around on such a day. Many I saw on my trip around the network, be those from Ritchies Transport, Kinetic, HOWICK AND EASTERN BUSES LIMITED, Auckland Transport and of course the great team out and about from Auckland One Rail. Can you do the entire metro rail network on Xmas Day? Although this rather sad (very much depends on your point of view - Editor) challenge was laid - confidence was high that it was more than achievable. Many thanks to my chief planner, or eldest son as he is otherwise known, who ensured we achieved the goal and had time to visit Swanson, Manakau, Puhinui, Otahuhu, as well as Papakura during the in/out trips to Britomart. Great to see the customer teams offering up sound help and assistance and of course the many members of the Driving and Train Manager team who we interacted with throughout the day. All was well at the end of the day and I even had time for a bit of photography - although the scenery is a far better view than any of me. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you all. #AOR #AucklandTransport #Auckland
