Fleshing is an indication of how much muscle is developed on bird’s breast. Pullets have different fleshing conformations over time. In the first four weeks of early development period, fleshing will be rounded shape of breast — which called Fleshing score 3. In the maintenance period with control growth. This period the breast muscle should not be prominent and look like V shape. We call this a Fleshing score 2. At 12 weeks the frame size of broiler breeders is more than 90% complete. The fleshing should gradually increase and become fleshing score 2-3 at 16 weeks, With high amount of feed increment start from 15-20 weeks, pullet’s fleshing become round shape and call score 3 to 4 at 20 weeks with fat deposit. Q: Before peak production, how much fat pad in cm is optimum? A: To decide start of photo stimulation, we don’t measure fat pad in cm, but only measure the present of fat, if there is a fat we consider it as “yes” bird, if there is no fat we consider it as “no” bird, 90-95% pullet should be “yes” birds when you start light stimulation. Q: Many housing systems use slatted floors. What will be the challenge facing with a coccidiosis vaccine? A: On slat, the main issue will be the recycling of the oocysts. The birds must stay permanently and for a long time (at least 1 month) to peck the vaccinal oocysts contained in the droppings. Usually, adding paper will help.
