As Te Wiki o te Reo Māori comes to a close, we're excited to share some insights into the incredible growth of Te Aka Māori Dictionary. Each year, the app's usage explodes as Language Week takes place. This year, it surged by a staggering 750%, demonstrating the community's enthusiasm for learning and embracing te Reo. We're proud of our continued partnership with Te Murumāra Foundation and their dedication to creating valuable resources for Māori language learners. This year, we developed new features like quiz flashcards, customisable favourite lists, and enhanced the search functionality to make learning even more engaging and effective. This year's theme of "āke, ake, ake" (a forever language) perfectly captures the resilience and adaptability of te Reo. Apt as many seek to reconnect and embrace the language revitalisation. In the space of a few months, AI image generation has come on leaps and bounds. In fact, I scored 1/10 on the first attempt at a new digital quiz "AI or Real?". Pretty humbling. Anyway, the quiz is created to be an interactive demonstration of AI and software development, ready for tomorrow's Whānau Day. Ran by Code Avengers, and sponsored by a bunch of tech firms, including Dynamo6. Humblebrag aside, the event aims to address a critical issue: the digital skills and diversity gap within the technology industry. It seeks to engage with Year 7 and 8 students (intermediate school level), especially from Māori and Pasifika communities, and inspire them to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM).
