Hummingbird Coffee, one of our leading brands in New Zealand (NZ), has brought new life to areas of Christchurch affected by the 2011 earthquake 🌳  Hummingbird, a homegrown Christchurch brand,  partnered with a NZ charity called The Green Lab to support the creation of the Te Kohanga Taiao Sensory Nature Play Park in the Avon-Ōtākaro Forest Park, now open to the public. The park brought a deserted residential area in Christchurch back to life, having been part of the original ‘red zone’ devastated by the earthquake. The project also champions sustainability by using recycled materials and eco-friendly practices.  In addition to Hummingbird’s financial support, volunteers from JDE Peet's NZ rolled up their sleeves to make this vision a reality, alongside civil society and members of the community.  At JDE Peet's we believe it is our responsibility to bring people together, and we're proud to see our brands like Hummingbird Coffee making such a difference in local communities.  #JDEPeets #HummingbirdCoffee #JDEPeetsCommonGrounds

  • We are pleased to share another successful collaboration with students and the team at Department of Economics and Finance, University of CanterburyAya Nakayama, Hayden Joyce, and Siying Qian presented a comprehensive consultancy report on our Moccona Café Style Mixes to Nick Cowper & Alannah Kelly-Curtin, with some outstanding recommendations. Special thanks to Tom Coupé and Laura Meriluoto for the continued partnership between UC Business School and JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS NZ.

Yesterday, Aya Nakayama, Hayden Joyce and Siying Qian, an exchange student from Shanghai Business School, presented their consultancy report to Alannah Kelly-Curtin and Nick Cowper of JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS NZ. The team of University of Canterbury students analysed sales data of Moccona’s coffee style mixes, using regression analysis, and built on the marketing literature and market research to come up with recommendations on how Moccona can increase its market share while keeping a premium pricing strategy. The team was supervised by Professor Tom Coupé, pictured on the left. The project was done as a part of our Internship or Consultancy Project course that is available to our 3rd year undergraduate students (ECON/FINC390) and our graduate students (ECON/FINC679). The course demonstrates our commitment to offering students access to work-integrated learning. Thank you, Alannah and Nick, for working with us once again, and we look forward to the next project! If you would like to partner with us to get students working on your project, please get in touch with Laura Meriluoto. UC Business School

  • Something is brewing over at the Avon-Ōtākaro Forest Park in Christchurch. The Green Lab, in partnership with the Avon-Ōtākaro Forest Park and Hummingbird Coffee Roasters, are building a nature play area that promotes access to nature and a deeper connection to the environment. The site will be an educational hub, encouraging an understanding and appreciation of the diverse biodiversity found within its boundaries. This space is designed to engage all senses, providing a multi-sensory experience for visitors, including a sound garden, a creation table for kids and a sensory rope trail garden. This project is designed to have minimal impact on the environment and embodies sustainable practices – from re-using coffee sacks to prep the garden beds, to installing the rope for the sensory garden which has been donated by a local fishery. It’s little things that make a big impact on a project like this. In mid-April, the team at Hummingbird and Conservation Volunteers New Zealand supported the Green Lab team by volunteering time at the site. From cleaning up the riverbed, to digging holes to build a rock trail to the river – we also got creative with coffee beans and decorated concrete pavers. It was a really great day out for the team! Set to open Sunday 9 June 2024, we can’t wait for the space to be enjoyed by everyone! Julie Tarm Mike Stribrny

  • Last Friday, the JDE NZ team got the opportunity to join our friends Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and help with the Papakura Stream Restoration Project in Brookby, Auckland. The Papakura Stream Restoration Project aims to improve the health of the stream and the wider catchment through restoration planting in hills, wetlands and to restore linkages between indigenous forest remnants and the stream. With 65 enthusiastic volunteers, we got our hands dirty and planted 1,245 native plants 🌱 and being able to get kids involved was a great way to start their journey with the environment. Shout out to the amazing CVNZ team for the great work they do in making a difference to our environment. #CommonGrounds Agnieszka Wojciechowska Mike Stribrny Nick Cowper Katie Stewart Toni Zinzan Ka Wing Lau Quan Yuan Mark Polaczek Simon Boyle Silvie Novotna
