🍻 Who Can Hold an Alcohol Licence in New Zealand? 🍷 If you're thinking about starting a business that serves alcohol in New Zealand, it’s important to know who can hold an alcohol licence. Here’s a quick breakdown: 1. Individuals – Anyone can apply for a licence as long as they meet the legal requirements (like being of legal age, usually 20+). 2. Companies – Businesses, such as restaurants, bars, or event venues, can apply for a licence under the company’s name. But the company must have a nominated manager who is responsible for complying with alcohol laws. 3. Partnerships & Trusts – These types of organisations can also hold a licence, but again, they need to have a responsible person in charge. 4. Even clubs and state departments can hold specific licences. 👉 Important: The person or business applying for the licence must be “fit and proper” to hold one. This means no serious criminal convictions, and they need to prove they can run the business responsibly, keeping public safety in mind. Whether you’re running a café, a bar, or a large event venue, understanding who can hold the licence is a key step in getting your business up and running legally. #AlcoholLicence #NZBusiness #HospitalityNZ #AlcoholLaw #BusinessTips

Did you know New Zealand has four main types of alcohol licences? Here's the scoop: On-Licence: For enjoying a drink at your favorite bar or restaurant. Off-Licence: For grabbing a bottle to enjoy at home. Club Licence: For members and guests at clubs. Special Licence: For those one-off events and festivals. Each licence comes with specific conditions to ensure responsible service and consumption. Whether you're a business owner or planning an event, understanding these licences is crucial for compliance and safety. There are also other types of licences (within the four mentioned above) that cater to the specific needs of individual venues. To find out more, contact us Pervinder Davies Law.

A Year to Remember: Wishing You All a Joyful Holiday Season As the year winds down, I find myself reflecting on 2024 as though it were a story in progress—a chapter filled with challenges, triumphs, and the people who made it all worthwhile. This year felt like setting out on an unpredictable journey. Some days were like calm, clear skies where everything flowed seamlessly. Other days were like navigating uncharted waters, where persistence and trust became the compass. But what truly shaped this story were the incredible characters who joined along the way—clients, colleagues, family, and friends who turned moments into milestones. At Pervinder Davies Law we witnessed growth, tackled complex challenges, and celebrated wins, big and small. Beyond the office, there were personal chapters that brought joy—like watching my son grow and being reminded of what truly matters at the heart of it all. As we close this chapter of 2024, I want to thank everyone who played a part in this year’s story. Whether through a collaboration, a conversation, or your unwavering support, you’ve enriched this journey in ways I’ll always cherish. Here’s to the stories yet to be written in 2025!
