It's incredible sad news to hear of more incidences around powerlines. The injuries are horrific and the impacts of an incident like this are lasting. This was a case of working on scaffolding that had been installed too close to powerlines with no close approach consent for the work and no proper risk assessment undertaken of the dangers. Everyone in the industry needs to understand how to work around powerlines, what's required, and what the risks are. We have resources including posters, map links, templates and videos on our website at https://lnkd.in/g3XCM6yV You can also learn more about working near overhead lines at https://lnkd.in/gC9c7bRf Everyone deserves to go home safe. Understand and manage the risks when working at height and near overhead powerlines. If you're not sure, ask. We all want to see our people going home safe at the end of the day. #workplacesafety #construction #scaffolding #healthandsafety
About us
'Quality & Safety everytime' Scaffolding, Access and Rigging NZ Inc was formed in 1994 by a group of like minded individuals working in the industry who wanted to ensure they were able to speak with a united voice when it came to issues of concern to the industry. Our membership consists of major scaffolding and rigging contractors, through to smaller companies and individuals. We also have a small number of Associate members who are providers to the industry in terms of supplying rope, planks, pipe, safety equipment, shrink wrap and the like. To truly achieve its objectives, SARNZ needs the support of people and companies whose business is or is involved in scaffolding, access and rigging.

A Historic First for the Rope Access Industry! We’re excited to share a game-changing milestone: For the first time ever, Rope Access Technicians have been officially assigned their own occupational code and recognized as a Level 3 Skilled Trade under New Zealand’s updated Occupational Codes! This formal recognition reflects the skill, precision, and safety standards that define the rope access profession. It’s a huge step forward for the industry and lays the foundation for even greater opportunities. Why This Matters ✅ Recognition: The technical expertise and professionalism of Rope Access Technicians are now officially acknowledged. ✅ Better Data: With a dedicated occupational code, we can finally collect industry-specific data to build a clearer picture of our workforce and its needs. ✅ Career Pathways: This recognition creates stronger opportunities for apprenticeships, career growth, and workforce development while helping attract local talent and support residency pathways for migrant workers. What Employers Need to Know: At this stage, no changes are required from employers or workers. If anything changes, we will let you know as soon as possible. A Look Back: Earlier Achievements Our advocacy efforts have been delivering real results: 1️⃣ Scaffolding Recognition: Scaffolding is now officially classified as a Level 3 trade – another major win for the industry. 2️⃣ Recent AEWV Changes: The New Zealand government has announced several changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) to enhance the immigration system. Key updates include: - Removal of Median Wage Threshold: Effective March 2025, the median wage threshold will be removed, simplifying the hiring process for employers. - Job Check Streamlining: Employers can now more easily re-use approved Job Checks for multiple applicants, reducing administrative delays and making the hiring process smoother for accredited employers. SARNZ has been proud to advocate for these changes, ensuring our industries are recognized, supported, and equipped for the future. These achievements are a testament to what’s possible when we come together as an industry to push for progress. Thank you to everyone who contributed – from participating in consultations to sharing your stories. Together, we’re shaping a stronger, safer, and more sustainable future for the Rope Access, Rigging and Scaffolding industries. #RopeAccess #SkilledTrade #Level3Trade #IndustryRecognition #WorkforceDevelopment #SARNZ Waihanga Ara Rau

SARNZ is incredibly proud of our CEO, Tina Wieczorek for winning the 2024 Rising Star Award at the Workplace Health & Safety Show!! 👏👏👏 This award further demonstrates the commitment and dedication she has shown to one of SARNZ's crucial pillars - safety. Tina is a proactive and forward-thinking leader who does the hard mahi, and brings the people along too. We are incredibly lucky to have someone in our waka who drives our industry forward, delivers such incredible impact and results, but always keeps an eye on the people. Safety of people is always at the forefront of her mind, making her an exceptional leader. She makes tough decisions and leads by example - even when it means diving into some tough conversations. The determination, dedication and raw passion that she shows in everything she does is truly inspiring and paves a way for future generations. Congratulations on such a well deserved award, Tina!! SARNZ and the industry are so lucky to have someone as passionate, dedicated and considerate as you. We are so proud 👏
I am incredibly honored to receive the Rising Star award at the Workplace Health & Safety Show recently in Sydney. https://lnkd.in/grUPx4me This recognition reflects our collective dedication to creating safer, healthier workplaces. The Work Should Not Hurt program and my recent conference speech were both driven by a commitment to improving our industry’s approach to well-being, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of such a passionate community. A heartfelt thank you to my board and my amazing team for their unwavering support and commitment. I’m especially grateful to David Crowley for graciously accepting the award on my behalf—thank you, David, for representing us with such integrity. I am a firm believer in "it takes a village", this award certainly represents many contributions and partnerships from industry and not just my own participation. I do hope recognition for this helps remind others that it's okay to share our struggles and that we can all collectively work on making our workplaces safer, both physically and mentally. Congratulations also to all the other inspiring nominees! Your hard work and dedication are what drives this industry forward. Let’s keep pushing to ensure everyone goes home safe and healthy each day. SARNZ- Scaffolding, Access & Rigging NZ Inc. reposted this
This post is long overdue since the SARNZ- Scaffolding, Access & Rigging NZ Inc. 30th Annual Conference and Tradeshow but a sincere thank you to Clive Dickin, CEO of NASC - National Access and Scaffolding Confederation, and Wayne Connolly, NASC Vice Chair, for making the long journey to join us at the SARNZ conference in New Zealand back in August. Clive provided invaluable insights into the UK market and NASC’s digitization project, while Wayne shared opportunities within the UK scaffolding and access sector. Their contributions were invaluable, and it was inspiring to see the shared commitment to raising industry standards globally. Our guests received a warm cultural welcome, reflecting the manaakitanga and values we uphold at SARNZ. Their presence and contributions truly enriched our event and were warmly received by all attendees. Since solidifying our MOU, the impact of our knowledge-sharing has been significant. Over the past few months, this partnership has allowed us to exchange ideas and best practices that strengthen both our associations and the broader industry, enabling us to tackle shared challenges more effectively and elevate standards together. Jarrod Radcliffe and I are now looking forward to attending ScaffEx in Belfast at the end of November to support, represent SARNZ, and to continue building on this collaboration. If you’ll be there, reach out; we’re excited to connect with more industry leaders passionate about advancing scaffolding, rigging and rope access. Make sure you register—it’s going to be a great event! #SARNZ #Scaffex #NASC #Partnership
