🎧 In the final episode of the STF podcast, Courteney was joined by Max Ferguson, founder and CEO of Lumin; a software leader, providing accessible, safe and intuitive tech products that enable seamless collaboration in the workplace. During this insightful chat, Max covered Lumin’s global-from-day-1 mentality, which saw him relocate to Silicon Valley very early on, followed by his choice to return to Aotearoa New Zealand to set up Lumin’s headquarters in Christchurch. He talked about the cultural differences between the US and NZ when it comes to building new businesses, NZ’s world-class tertiary education system, and how to support talent to stay here once they graduate. It’s December 2014, and a young Max Ferguson is bunkered down in his room at Stanford University, coding for 18 hours a day to produce the first version of Lumin. 10 years later, Lumin is celebrating surpassing 100 million users 🚀 We’re reflecting on the journey it’s been and where we started: 🇳🇿 Born from a real problem in earthquake-hit Christchurch, New Zealand, where Max saw the disconnect between paper and digital plans. 👏 One month after Lumin went live, we hit our first million users. 🏃♂️ Our first paid customer mailed us a check that took 3 months to reach New Zealand. That check was hung on the wall! The secret sauce? No grand strategy, just pure problem-solving and constant experimentation. Oh, and a bold bet in 2019 when we nearly went bankrupt rebuilding everything from scratch! (Spoiler alert: it paid off) We’ve come a long way, but some things never change: we’re committed to making work easier for millions of people every day. Here’s to the next 100 million! 🎊 Get the full rundown here: https://lnkd.in/ggFn6Gwt #TechSuccess #Innovation #ProductDevelopment #Entrepreneurship #SaaS #FutureOfWork

🌍 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Congratulations to Seequent, on their exciting new partnership with the International Geothermal Association! Together, they’re championing the untapped potential of geothermal energy—a sustainable, 24/7 power source critical to the global energy transition. Geothermal has long been underestimated, but advancements in subsurface modelling and resource management are proving its value as a clean, reliable solution for everything from powering homes to supporting hyperscale AI-enabled data centres. As Graham Grant, CEO of Seequent, puts it: "𝘎𝘦𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺. Seequent’s innovations are already helping transform geothermal projects globally, including heating homes in Paris and Munich and supplying power to Google’s data centres in Nevada through Fervo Energy. This partnership with the IGA is a big step toward unlocking geothermal’s full potential and positioning it as a vital contributor to a net-zero future. 🌱 Here’s to New Zealand innovation leading the charge for a more sustainable world! 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gjVSHT5E NZTech New Zealand Trade and Enterprise New Zealand Story Group Lyle Johnson #seetomorrowfirst

🙌 Massive congrats to the team Dawn Aerospace for their record-breaking flight! The rocket-powered MK-II Aurora surpassed the speed of sound for the first time, reaching Mach 1.1 and climbing to an altitude of 82,500 feet. This is over twice as high as commercial aircraft and marks the first time a civil aircraft has flown supersonic since Concorde. ✅ The fastest aircraft ever to climb from ground level to 20 km. ✅ First New Zealand-designed and -built aircraft to fly supersonic. ✅ Highest altitude achieved by an aircraft flown from New Zealand. “As a company, we have been working for more than seven years to design, develop, test, and deliver supersonic flight. We are now achieving this and will start commercial payload operations in the coming months under the Dawn Hypersonics brand,” says CEO, Stefan Powell Super inspiring to watch Dawn take flight! They are another incredible example of the scale and ambition of innovation born out of Aotearoa New Zealand. #seetomorrowfirst NZTech New Zealand Story Group New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Tāwhaki Aerospace New Zealand

New Zealand-based biotech company Kimer Med is on a mission to change that by developing broad-spectrum antivirals, which aim to combat a wide range of viral infections and protect against future pandemics.
