(This is a granted awarded annually for former students within our community continuing with post grad education and in a capacity to give back to our country and communities.) This week I had the pleasure of attending the opening of the stunning new Year 7-10 playground at St Cuthbert's College. A huge thank you to all the generous donors and the talented designers who made this vision a reality. It was wonderful to have Deputy Mayor (and St Cuths alumni) Desley Simpson there to officially open the playground. Her presence was especially fitting, given her inspiring keynote speech at last year’s Making Their Mark Awards. The day brought back memories of my time as Chair of the PTA at Epsom Normal Primary School, when we built a brand-new junior playground, but ours had racing slides! There’s something so rewarding about designing spaces like these, knowing they’ll spark joy and foster creativity—not just for the children they’re intended for, but for the wider school community as well. I also couldn’t resist peeking into the beautiful Old Girls Chapel before the ceremony to see the incredible decorations crafted by Old Girl Alice Sharp for the new Christingle celebrations brought in by our new Principal Charlotte Avery. And as always, it was a joy to reconnect with Reverend Francois Joubert Ph.D. whose warmth and dedication continue to inspire and uplift me. Playgrounds epitomise the simple joys of childhood. They are an incredible resource for play, connection, and visual appeal. So once again, thank you so much to the amazing donors. Here’s to creating more spaces that bring the school community together - including present, future and past students and their families.
