As we are approaching the 25th anniversary of the landmark UN
Security Resolution 1325 on Women👩🏽, Peace and Security, the Philippines
hosted an International Conference on Women, Peace and Security in Manila. The conference brought together governments, civil society, the academe, and other stakeholders to collaboratively overcome the challenges to women’s full and meaningful participation in peace and security efforts. The adopted Pasay Declaration pledges to accelerate the Women, Peace and Security agenda, promising action in conflict prevention, peace negotiations and protection for women in conflict zones.
Switzerland has a long-standing engagement in the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. Strengthening women’s role in peace and security is not only one of our foreign policy priorities, it is also one of our objectives as a member of the UN Security Council. For Switzerland, there is no lasting peace without women! Women must be involved in peace processes on an equal footing with men and women’s rights must be better protected.
Switzerland thanks the Philippine government for the organization of this important conference with support of the Department of Foreign Affairs , the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), the Philippine Commission on Women and the Philippines Department of Budget and Management , in partnership with UN Women, the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy and the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR).
