The informal sector presents significant challenges and risks, including those related to forced labor, primarily due to outdated practices and inadequate regulatory oversight. In Pakistan, sectors such as brick kilns, mining, and agriculture are particularly affected by these issues, underscoring the need for targeted reforms to improve working conditions and uphold workers' rights. The National Conference on the Elimination of #ForcedLabor in Karachi brought together industrialists, business leaders, and social experts to advocate for #responsiblebusiness practices and prevent forced labor across all sectors. Shahid Abdul Salam Thahim, Hon'ble Minister for Labour, Sindh, Guillermo Mont, OIC ILO Pakistan, and Oluremi Doherty, Chief Technical Advisor Bridge Project ILO addressed the urgent need to combat forced and bonded labor. They stressed the importance of implementing effective policies, improving enforcement, and fostering collaboration to safeguard workers' rights and prevent exploitation. Employers Best Practices Session featured excellent initiatives taken by Artistic Milliners Mustafa Ahmad and Nestle Pakistan Muhammad Amir Ikram 🎯 Key takeaways: - Employers as Catalysts for Change - Strengthening Regulatory Frameworks - Promoting Fair and Transparent Employment Practices The conference marked the culmination of a year-long campaign to eliminate forced labor from Pakistan's informal sector, funded by USDOL under the Bridge Project.
