If you're using React Flow to build interactive workflows and diagramming tools, this guide is a must-read. Learn more below 👇 .
Still struggling with React Flow project performance? We’ve been there too. We know that building a React Flow project with optimal performance for large datasets isn’t something you just do off the cuff – it takes years of experience to figure out but once you get the hang of it, it becomes much more manageable. That’s why our CTO, Łukasz Jaźwa, put together a five-step optimization framework to help developers avoid common pitfalls and keep their diagrams running smoothly. Step 1 ⫻ Optimize the <ReactFlow> component The React Flow library strongly recommends passing memoized references to <ReactFlow> component, whether the props are functions or objects. Miss this step, and you risk unnecessary re-renders that slow down your entire diagram. Step 2 ⫻ Manage dependencies on node and edge arrays When components and hooks depend on dynamically changing node and edge arrays, re-renders can get out of control. We break this down using selection as an example. These are just two of the five steps covered in our “Ultimate Guide to Optimize React Flow Performance”. ⫺ If you haven't read it yet, check it out here: bit . ly/ReactFlow-5Hints ⫺ If you’ve read it and found it useful, let me know, please. I’m truly curious to hear your thoughts.

Better decisions start with better visuals! Still relying on Excel for production planning or outdated org charts? There’s a smarter way. The first episodes of Right Decisions with Data Vis are out! Our CEO explores how modern diagramming tools streamline workflows, improve governance, and enhance decision-making. 🔗 Watch now: https://lnkd.in/d-AKjdVn
Are you still using Excel for production planning? Does your business run on outdated org charts? There’s a better way. The first two episodes of "Right Decisions with Data Vis" are out. In my new series of 10-minute videos on YT, I'm showing why diagrams are more than just visuals – they’re decision-making tools that help businesses operate smarter. ⫺ Episode 1 is all about moving beyond Excel for production planning. If you’re dealing with process complexity, BOM management, or struggling to keep your team aligned, modern diagramming solutions can help you streamline workflows and reduce errors. ⫺ Episode 2 tackles corporate governance. Classic org charts can feel static and not built for real-time decisions. I break down how visualization tools make governance clearer and more effective, simplifying complex decision-making processes. No theory, just real-world use cases. Uncontrolled dependencies of components and hooks on node and edge arrays are among the main threats to the performance of applications using React Flow ❌ . The state of nodes and edges can change even with minor updates to individual properties of any diagram element. This often results in unnecessary re-renders of components dependent on this state. To avoid unnecessary rendering, you can define a field in store where you can keep selected objects. Thanks to that a Node component won’t be directly dependent on nodes array. Learn the details of this approach from our “Ultimate guide to optimize React Flow project’s performance” and get to know more ways to enhance your project performance. One small mistake in React Flow can kill your project's performance – our CTO uncovers 5 steps to help you fix those issues. If you've ever worked with large diagrams – think thousands of nodes – you know how quickly things can slow down. Even a single non-optimized line of code can cause unnecessary re-renders, making the entire application sluggish. React Flow is particularly prone to these pitfalls – but the good news is that performance issues can be prevented with the right approach. ⫹⫺ ⫹⫺ ⫹⫺ In our latest blog post, our CTO, Łukasz Jaźwa, shares a five-step process to help you optimize your React Flow projects. ⫹⫺ ⫹⫺ ⫹⫺ The article is based on real-world performance audits and over a decade of experience building diagramming applications. Since performance is the #1 challenge developers face when working with React Flow, we decided to tackle it first in our new Synergy Codes series. Check out our “Ultimate guide to optimize React Flow project performance”. ... PS: We have more expert articles on React Flow coming up, where we'll tackle additional real-world challenges developers face when building diagramming applications. Stay tuned!

Performance optimization in the React Flow project can be challenging. But it doesn't have to be if you follow a step-by-step process 👇 . First, consider the <ReactFlow> component's optimization. The React Flow library's documentation strongly recommends passing memoized references to <ReactFlow> component, whether the props are functions or objects. To ensure optimal performance, follow these two rules: 1️⃣ Objects memoization: Objects passed to the <ReactFlow> component should be memoized using useMemo or defined outside the component. 2️⃣ Functions memoization: All functions passed as props should be memoized using useCallback. Additionally, memoized objects and functions must have stable dependencies to ensure consistent behavior. Suppose you include elements with frequently changing references (e.g., functions not wrapped in useCallback) in the dependencyArray of useMemo or useCallback. In that case, the memoization will not yield the expected results. Read our "Ultimate guide to optimize React Flow project's performance" to learn details about this approach and the next steps in the optimization process. Find the link in the comments section 🔗 👇 . Have you wondered what actual benefits AI can bring to data visualization projects? Our CEO recently had a discussion on this topic 👇 .
I asked a scientist about what benefits AI offers for data visualization. Here's what he answered: “I think that AI can help boost creativity and design diagrams faster [...]. AI can also generate and interpret diagrams or graphs, read them, and understand what they represent, including relationships between nodes. It can help users determine what to modify on the diagram and what nodes or objects to add or remove. [...] So, AI can help you generate more ideas, accelerate your work with creating diagrams or graphs, and eventually help you interpret them or make them more accurate.” If you’d like other opinions on this topic, read the report “How does AI shape the future of data visualization.” 👉 https://lnkd.in/dQn3UuZe And if you have additional minutes, share your opinions in the comments section or DM me. #AI #datavisualization #report
