About us
Kurumbuka Leadership Solutions is a non-profit organization using a Christ-centered approach to develop, connect, and equip emerging and executive leaders who have the passion and vision to transform their institutions, organizations, and communities across Africa. Kurumbuka's high-level leadership programs are designed to advance transformative solutions for African communities by multiplying impact at every step. Our impact model is reinforced by our commitment to Biblical truth, servant leadership, an abundant community, and asset-based community development. The Kurumbuka impact model includes the following four phases: 1. Empower Leaders: Develop an emerging or executive leader 2. Connect Influencers: Connect the leader to a faith-based network of like-minded difference-makers 3. Multiply Solutions: Equip the leader with tools and resources that will multiply impact in their community 4. Realize Dreams: 10,000 leaders implement transformative and sustainable solutions for their communities and countries by 2030.

Ruei Hoth Gony, a current ALI participant, led a training for 41 participants in Juba, South Sudan, teaching on abundant leadership and asset-based community development. Here’s what some of the participants said... 💬 Philip "I will go home today and apologize to my wife for not listening to her because if I did, her dream would have been a reality and maybe her change would have helped me overcome my fears." 💬 Mark: "I had a limited vision of myself and blamed others for my problems instead of asking. Instead of trusting others, I have always tried working alone without success. This teaching has slapped me with reality that I must embrace." The impact on Ruei himself was profound. He says: “The engagement and confessions moved me to tears. The training helped redefine my dreams to help others. Participants even wished the sessions never ended and requested more. DT Global South Sudan now includes a leadership book from the Bible and prayer in every Monday staff meeting, a practice we started after the Kurumbuka training. John 10:10 and the six critical shifts of an abundant leader are now reminders for growth amongst our team." We’re so proud of Ruei and his work in his community! #kurumbuka #abundantleadership #leadershipdevelopment

Alain Munyaburanga is an ALI alumnus and founder of Afrinest Engineering Ltd. in the Great Lakes region. At ALI, Alain discovered that "whatever situation you are in, you are not there to be the boss; you are there to serve." ALI changed his mindset to see the potential in his community and the importance of empowering others. Afrinest is an engineering manufacturing company that has created 300 local jobs, making Afrinest one of the largest employers in Karongi, Rwanda. Afrinest trains locals to develop skills in marine engineering and shipbuilding and runs a maritime academy for captains, skippers, safety, technical skills, and related tourism activities. At Kurumbuka, we invest deeply in leaders like Alain, to transform and empower their communities.

At the Abundant Leadership Institute, leaders multiply impact through our Kumi Mara (10x) initiative. Today, we're celebrating Ronald Kavulu, who trained 15 participants at a school in Kampala, Uganda, teaching abundant leadership and asset-based community development. Here’s what participants said... Sarah: "I want to be a good leader with a heart full of grace to serve." Samuel: "I realized I can leverage my current resources instead of waiting for what's unavailable." Mary: "We need to work as a team and identify the strengths of each one." Mellon: "My understanding has changed; leadership isn't about commanding or creating fear but inspiring and guiding." We’re so proud of Ronald’s work and the transformation already beginning in his community! #kurumbuka #leadershipdevelopment #multiplication #sustainabledevelopment

On November 14th, our dear friend and board member Dr. Don Page, after battling pneumonia and an aggressive cancer, entered the arms of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Below is a tribute from Richard Taylor, our Executive Director: I wasn't even born when Don gave his first speech but I was privileged to be there for his final one on August 22nd, 2024. It was given at a Kurumbuka Leadership Solutions fundraising event called Picnic in Colour. Don wore a bright yellow Kenyan shirt. He stood tall and statesmanlike, regal even. He used no notes and proceeded to convince everyone why developing and empowering Christian leaders in Africa was so important and fit with his life calling. Don was an accomplished historian and academic who wrote and gave over 3000 speeches in his lifetime. He served two Prime Ministers. He was a thought leader in applied transformational servant leadership and established Trinity Western’s Masters in Leadership program and the Laurentian Leadership Centre in Ottawa. He was nominated for the Order of British Columbia. Don helped shape my life and leadership in countless ways. I first met Don when he was my teacher. It was 2007, I was a 27-year-old graduate student in his class on Transformational Servant Leadership at Trinity Western. Don’s class changed my career trajectory. He became my mentor. Don and I shared many meals together over the years. Usually this was a 7 a.m. breakfast at a humble Canadian diner in Walnut Grove named Denny’s. He asked great questions and he had a listening ear. He believed in me. He prayed for me. He did the same for countless other leaders during his lifetime. In the final five years of his life, Don became a partner and my friend. He served as a founding board member for Kurumbuka Leadership Solutions and helped bring our vision for developing and empowering African leaders to life. Don played a pivotal role in shaping our curriculum to train and transform local leaders. Don is a true example of a man shaped by God’s heart; he led with grace, compassion, and love for God’s children. We will miss you dearly Don. Until we see each other again, I and thousands of other leaders you impacted, will try our best, with God’s help, to carry on your legacy. --- If you are interested in reading Don's obituary from his wonderful family or getting details about his Celebration of Life on January 11th, at Gracepoint Church, you can find it here: https://lnkd.in/gTjZrtAM All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don’s life or follow the live stream that will be posted online. Don's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Don’s memory and support his passion for developing leaders of the future at Kurumbuka Leadership Solutions in Rwanda www.kurumbuka.org/ or the Laurentian Leadership Center in Ottawa through Trinity Western University https://lnkd.in/gMa7rayB.
