We met up with Jacob Östberg, Professor of Marketing, to get to the bottom of some serious matters: How did we become the consumer society we are, what role does advertising play – and are humans really rational beings? Befitting of the gravity of the conversation, we asked the renowned academic to slip into some ASKET sweatwear at work, in the great halls of academia at Stockholm University. Would you buy a garment without seeing it first? Last week, we replaced our product images with simple text: “Garments so uncompromisingly timeless you already know what they look like.” Our aim was to test the timelessness of our design but the ‘experiment’ sparked another debate, on what information truly matters to make informed purchasing decisions. Read more about this in a conversation our co-founder August Bard Bringéus had with Bella Webb at Vogue Business. #Sustainability #EcommerceInnovation #TimelessFashion https://lnkd.in/dN9pT4hY

We’re excited to present The Permanent Lookbook. With a limited production run of 100 books, The Permanent Lookbook contains not a single product image. Instead the Lookbook has been published to both test and underscore our commitment to timeless design. In a true test of timelessness, we decided to remove all garment images. Instead, inviting readers to use their mind’s eye to envision the pieces in the permanent collection. Rather than relying on visuals, we wanted to present a fresh perspective by subverting expectations and placing emphasis on the intrinsic qualities of the products rather than their visual presentation. The Permanent Lookbook will be available to browse at our Flagship Store in Stockholm only.

This week we temporarily removed all product images from our website, in a radical experiment to put the timelessness of our garments to the test. We wanted to challenge ourselves and our customers to see if our stringent design philosophy and curated assortment of wardrobe essentials could speak for itself. We embarked on this with faith in our product but apprehensive about the reactions. After three days, the results are in: 410 people bought 1013 ASKET garments without seeing them first. 44% were new customers. For those less daring, our garment images are back online again. Images are, of course, irreplaceable in terms of describing a garment and making informed purchasing decisions.

For a few days this week, we’ve decided to remove every product image from our website. The idea is to prove a fairly simple point: We only create garments so uncompromisingly timeless you already know what they look like. So when visiting asket.com today, bring your imagination. We’ll be back with all images on Thursday. Hope you can wait - our garments are around forever.
