Tackling antimicrobial resistance(AMR) together – Sysmex Astrego had the pleasure to host Sweden’s Ambassador on AMR, Malin Grape from the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, together with colleagues from the Government Offices. The group toured the production and R&D facility, meeting the team behind the Longitude Prize winning PA-100 AST System. The £8 million #LongitudePrize on AMR was won by Sysmex Astrego in 2024. The PA-100 AST System will transform the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTI) and brings the power of laboratory testing into a doctor’s office allowing healthcare professionals to administer the right antibiotic at the right time.

Sysmex Astrego is a rapidly growing in vitro diagnostic company based in Uppsala, Sweden. The company was founded as Astrego Diagnostics in March 2017 and was acquired by Sysmex Corporation, Japan, in May 2022 when the new entity Sysmex Astrego AB was formed. The company name comes from Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing – AST, and rego – being latin for guide, steer or manage. Our mission is to help in the global fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and our products are designed to guide physicians in the selection of effective antibiotic treatments to improve patient outcomes and make antibiotic stewardship easy. Our team combines multidisciplinary scientific excellence with seasoned entrepreneurs and diagnostic industry management.

"Had I had the new PA-100 UTI test made possible by the Longitude Prize, I’m certain that I, like millions of others, would not have been sentenced to the relentless pain that I am now forced to endure, rendering access to a normal life practically impossible." It is an absolute honour to announce that Sysmex Astrego has been awarded the Longitude Prize on Antimicrobial Resistance #AMR for the PA-100 AST System. #UTI are a common affliction, but lack efficient diagnostics, resulting in increased AMR through inaccurate, empiric antibiotic prescriptions. #Sysmex Astrego’s user-friendly PA-100 AST System determines bacterial growth and radically expedites AST (antibiotic susceptibility tests) by having susceptibility results be available directly at the point-of-care in less than an hour.
