  • 📈Data is the lifeblood of our digital world. Even more so in this new era of AI. Kirk Dunn and the team at Kurrent (formerly Event Store) have a mission to make data as available and ubiquitous as electricity. They represent a true paradigm shift in data handling and we are excited to participate in their latest $12m funding round alongside our friends at Crane Venture Partners. ⚡Kurrent was born out of the open-source Event Store Database project. Their event-native approach goes beyond traditional static, end state databases by capturing the complete context around any event - the ‘when’, ‘how’ and ‘why’ and making this available in real time.  🎥Imagine your business is like a movie, and traditional databases are just taking snapshots of the final scene. With Kurrent, you keep the state history in the core data model which means it’s like having a complete video recording of every single scene, with detailed behind-the-scenes commentary. 💥With the explosion in AI, Kurrent’s moment has come. LLMs and machine learning models need high quality data to train on and Kurrent’s platform provides access to high fidelity, original-source data with complete context and all available in real time. • 🎉 Spotify is a $100bn company 🎉 The buzz yesterday may have been around Spotify Wrapped 2024. In other news, Spotify crossed the $100bn market cap threshold for the first time. 🚀 🇪🇺 What an incredible achievement and proof that $100bn companies can come from Europe. Huge congrats to Daniel Ek and the team. It seems like a good opportunity to reshare Fredrik Cassel  's fascinating reflections on what we saw in Spotify when we first met them all the way back in 2007 (including what we were right about them at the time, and what we got wrong). Enjoy the trip down memory lane! Link in the comments 👇

  • We are super excited to lead Appcharge’s $26m Series A. Mobile gaming is on the precipice of a revolution as the app store duopoly comes under mounting regulatory and legal pressure, opening the door to developers and publishers having a more direct relationship with their customers and avoiding the 'app store tax'. Rising customer acquisition costs also makes retention and having a direct customer relationship more important than ever. Enter Appcharge: an all-in-one monetization platform for mobile game publishers offering: 👉 Fully branded web stores that look and feel like the native game. 👉 Seamless checkout experience with 100 currencies and 500 payment methods supported. 👉 Mobile SDKs for in-app payments. 🚀 The Appcharge team has unparalleled gaming experience and incredible momentum, already powering web stores for mobile game studios like Huuuge Games, AppLovin and Product Madness 📱🎮, and processing more than $200m per year. Carl Fritjofsson said, “I’ve never seen a stronger ‘why now?’ in my time in venture than with Appcharge. They are the Robinhood who will lead a revolution in moving big $ from the giants of Apple and Google into the hands of developers and app creators.” We're delighted to back Maor Sason and Roei Barassi alongside Supercell, BITKRAFT Ventures, Moneta Ventures, Play Ventures, and Glilot Capital Partners. Read more about our investment thesis in Carl's blog, as well as Tech Crunch's reporting on the round. Links in the comments 👇

✨THE highlight of Slush Day 1: Maria Raga sharing the incredible insider story of Etsy’s $1.6bn 2021 acquisition of Depop. The deal returned the fund for Creandum and generated a staggering 20+x return ✨ In her conversation with Fredrik Cassel  , Maria revealed: - A key piece of advice she got at the start of the process: Don’t show your cards to the Board until the right moment. - How to get leverage with 1 buyer? Not needing or necessarily wanting to sell gave optionality as did gaming out an IPO scenario. - She believed so strongly that it was the right deal for Depop, she considered resigning if the Board voted towards the IPO path. They didn’t. - Dramatically, one hour before the deal was going to be announced, one investor refused to sign. 💡For founders/CEOs contemplating acquisition, key learnings Maria and Fred discussed are: - Companies should be bought, not sold. Don’t focus on exit; focus on building a great business and then exit options will come. - A strong Board is worth its weight in gold. - Don’t get cheap with the lawyers. Great advisors are critical. - Have patience. It’s a roller coaster process. Thank you for the great photos Riikka Vaahtera!
