Suturion is bringing a new gold standard for abdominal wall closure and an improved way of working.
Om oss
Problems that occur after open abdominal surgery are both painful and difficult for clincians and patients. Scientific evidence shows that the right surgical technique can reduce complications after open surgical procedures. Research shows that it is essential to follow best practice and clinical guidelines to reduce the risk of complications, such as incisional hernia and deep wound infections. We at Suturion want to be part of preventing these unnecessary complications by assisting clinicians with technologies to adhere to best practice prinicples of abdominal closure. During training and practice surgeon Gabriel Börner often encountered complications to closure of the abdomen after surgery. Most notably wound infections and incisional hernias. This experience, together with a growing body of scientific evidence and research showing that a evidence-based surgical technique can reduce these complications planted an idea that a device could help surgeons prevent hernias instead of repairing them. Suturion AB was founded in 2018 by Gabriel Börner and medtech engineer Mats O. Christensson and LU Holding AB. Suturion have during the last years filed several patent applications, performed extensive market analysis and pre-clinical research. Gabriel Börner MD is a frequent speaker at medical congresses and travels the world presenting his scientific research and findings. In 2024, Suturion has finalized a clinical trial which is an important step toward the regulatory pathway for CE and FDA approval.

A staggering truth: Surgical site infections (SSIs) occur in 10-18% of patients after laparotomies, making them the most common post-surgical complication (Millbourn et al., 2009, Broach et al., 2017). Every year, around 30 million open surgeries are performed worldwide, with 1 in 3 patients facing abdominal wall complications (Carney et al., 2017, HART Collaborative, 2022). These issues extend recovery times, reduce quality of life, and increase healthcare costs significantly (Wasserman et al., 2013, van Ramshorst et al 2013, Kirkland et al., 1999). At Suturion, we’re dedicated to revolutionizing abdominal wall closure with innovative solutions that enable surgeons to perform the small-bites technique — designed to reduce these complications and improve patient outcomes. 🔹 Advancing Abdominal Wall Closure 🔹 The small-bites technique is bringing essential improvements to abdominal wall closure after laparotomy, lowering complication risks like infections and incisional hernias (Milbourn et al., 2009, Deerenberg et al., 2015). 🔍 Backed by EHS, AHS, and WSES guidelines, this technique is evidence-based and proven to enhance recovery outcomes. Yet only 24% of surgeons fully adhere to it (Bloemen et al., 2019). Are we ready to raise the standard? Explore the clinical advantages and see how precision in suturing can improve patient care on the Suturion website! https://lnkd.in/dsxZa_Xe #SmallBitesTechnique #PatientOutcome #AbdominalWallClosure #Surgery
