As we wrap up 2024 at Can't Wait to Learn, we celebrate the milestones achieved, the challenges overcome, and—most importantly—the children whose lives have been transformed through the power of education. 🏆 This year, we were honoured with the 2024 Yidan Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious education awards. This recognition celebrates our innovative approach to bringing learning to hard-to-reach places and the resilience of the children we empower. 💡 After 4.5 years, our Global Partnership for Education (GPE) KIX research programme supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), in Uganda, Chad and Sudan was completed! It provided vital insights into scaling Can’t Wait to Learn, focusing on cost-efficiency, government adoption, and quality assurance. 🌍 Our global achievements in 2024 include: 🇺🇦 Ukraine Can’t Wait to Learn became the country's largest free, government-supported digital personalised learning platform for grades 1-4, fully aligned with the national curriculum and reaching over 130,000 Ukrainian children. 🇺🇬 Uganda Can’t Wait to Learn has been adopted by the District Local Government in Isingro district, with a pilot of 12,000 students set to expand in 2025. Our collaboration with Finn Church Aid, Norwegian Refugee Council, World Vision Uganda., and Save the Children Uganda continues in other regions. 🇱🇧 Lebanon Supporting host and refugee children in UNICEF Lebanon-led non-formal education programmes supported by European Commission's DG ECHO, Can't Wait to Learn supported children get back to learning, and more set for 2025. 🇯🇴 Jordan Can’t Wait to Learn reached children in both formal schools and non-formal learning centres in partnership with community-based organizations. Together with the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship, we are developing a web app to scale the programme to schools led by the government and NGOs. 🇸🇩 Sudan Save the Children in Sudan began implementing Can't Wait to Learn within a number of their programmes, and we engaged in promising discussions about forming a new partnership with SOS Children's Villages in Sudan. 🇹🇩 Chad Our colleagues at World Vision expanded their use of Can’t Wait to Learn in non-formal centres and schools. 🔬We always look to understand more! In 2024 we led research into how digital personalised learning can improve learning for children in conflict-affected countries in Ukraine, Lebanon, and Uganda! ✨ Reflecting on 2024, I’m filled with gratitude and inspiration. Colleagues from War Child, Save the Children Nederland and a network of incredible partners, allowed children facing unimaginable hardships to have had the chance to move, express, and heal. TeamUp is more than just an intervention—it’s a way for children to overcome traumatic events, strengthen their resilience, grow stronger and happier. Through movement and creative expression, children find ways to cope, develop emotional strength, and regain hope for the future. 🌍 The 2024 UN Global Humanitarian Overview presents a shocking assessment of how civilians have been impacted by conflict and disaster. For War Child this is one of the starkest global updates we have seen in our time. Not since 1946 – following the end of the second world war – have we seen this degree of displacement, hunger, killing and sexual violence, being driven by conflict. And it is children that are bearing the brunt.   ▶️ One in five children worldwide are currently living in or fleeing from conflict zones.   ▶️ In Ukraine, at least 16 children have been killed or injured every week since the war began.   ▶️ More women and children were killed in Gaza over the past year than the equivalent period of any other conflict over the past two decades.   The solutions are clear, yet global humanitarian need is being driven by an increasing disregard for international humanitarian law, and failure to hold those who commit grave violations, to account. Accountability is crucial to protect civilians and aid workers and to ensure that people can access assistance and protection when they need it most.   For decades humanitarian need has vastly outweighed funding. Critical provision like Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) are more crucial than ever in conflict zones due to the immense toll violence, displacement, and instability take on children and their families. In these areas, people face trauma, grief, and anxiety, which can have long-lasting effects on their ability to heal and rebuild their lives.   Effective humanitarian response requires states to act in solidarity with those in need and to commit to the full funding of humanitarian appeals. Without this, generations of children will continue to face a bleak and broken future.

After more than a decade of dedicated service to children, War Child is closing its doors in #Iraq. As we reflect on the impact of key programmes, we also look forward to a brighter outlook for young people across the war-torn country. Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/daU9N3U9
