Our roots run deep in Dalian, China, where we have a long-standing and rich maritime connection and legacy. In a recent interview with CRI Online during Summer Davos 2024, our Chairman, Chavalit Frederick Tsao, an Honorary Citizen of Dalian, “emphasized the significance of ship recycling and circular economy when speaking of ships set to be decommissioned”. He also “called for attention to the future development of maritime industries, emphasising that amidst economic shifts and globalisation, fostering the marine ecosystem vitality and the emerging industries requires technological innovation, environmental protection, and sustainable development.” Read more of his insights at https://lnkd.in/gHPM8dXZ #familybusiness #shipping #maritime #ocean #sustainabledevelopment #circulareconomy #summerdavos #dalian
Family Business Steward & Chairman at TPC (Tsao Pao Chee) Group, previously known as IMC Pan Asia Alliance Group
During the Summer Davos in Dalian, I had the opportunity to join the “Honorary Citizens Talk” with CRI Online. In the interview, I mentioned our deep connection with the city as a longstanding family business with a rich legacy of over 120 years in the maritime industry. As early as 1979, we began investing in China. Nearly half a century has passed, and I have been fortunate to witness the development with ships built in Dalian making a significant impact on global shipping lanes. Today, to seize the global trend of the circular economy and strengthen China's shipping industry, it is important to understand the significance of ship recycling when speaking of ships set to be decommissioned. As we navigate economic shifts and globalization, it is important to realize that the future of the maritime industry will revolve around restoring the ocean as our central focus, reshaping how we utilize this vital resource under the guiding concept of “unity of heaven and humanity” (天人合一) to drive future development. Read the full article and join the conversation on how we can shape a sustainable future together. #familybusiness #shipping #maritime #ocean #sustainabledevelopment #circulareconomy #summerdavos #dalian

At IMC Industrial, we celebrate diversity as a fundamental strength that drives innovation and excellence. We are committed to building a workplace of the future where people, like Usha from IMC Ship Services, feel they belong and are empowered to add value every day. Meet Usha, our newly-joined Fleet Personnel Manager at IMC Ship Management. With over 16 years of experience in the maritime industry, she started as a Crewing Assistant before steadily rising through the ranks. According to Usha, she stumbled into the maritime industry by chance. “I graduated with a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Human Resources, during the 2008 recession,” she recalls. “I accepted the first job offer that came my way, which just so happened to be in shipping. Initially, I thought it would be temporary. However, I quickly fell in love with the dynamic nature of the job. The industry's ever-changing landscape and diverse interactions ensure that no two days are ever the same!” This fascination led her to pursue a Diploma in Shipping and Marine Offshore as part of her #ContinuousLearning journey. Operating in a male-dominated industry has convinced Usha of the importance of having more diversity in shipping. “Women bring diverse perspectives and skills, contributing to a more inclusive workplace culture. Companies that embrace these differences benefit from enhanced decision-making and adaptability," she shared. Speaking on IMC Ship Management’s #CommitmentToDiversity, Usha said: “I was pleasantly surprised to learn that almost half of the employees here are women.” She also felt empowered knowing that her manager valued her soft skills and experiences, and was willing to allow her to grow into a role she had not taken up before. Welcome on board, Usha! 👋 #LifeAtTPC #ShipManagement #MaritimeIndustry #WomenInMaritimeDay

Amidst the global green transition, shipping and other traditional industries are reassessing how they can play a role in forging a more sustainable and resilient future.
