It’s our highest ranking in the past decade! Singapore is the world’s 4th most innovative country and the 1st in Asia, according to the Global Innovation Index (#GII) 2024. Announced by World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO, the GII ranked 133 countries using 78 indicators that measured a country’s innovation capabilities. Singapore has maintained our lead as the world’s 1st in innovation input (factors that enable innovative activities), and our innovation output (actual results of innovative activity) also moved up one position, to 11th. As we celebrate, we want to thank our stakeholders and partners across government, people, and private sectors, who have worked with us over the years to build the world-class innovation ecosystem we have today. Let’s continue our efforts under the Singapore IP Strategy 2030 to further strengthen our position as a hub that will attract and enable innovative enterprise to flourish. We're pleased to be a part of the APIEX Symposium 2024 with IVAS - Institute of Valuers and Appraisers, Singapore and International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC), where IPOS' Principal Legal Counsel Gabriel Ong gave insight into the role of IP and intangible asset valuation in dispute resolution, and how it can potentially influence court decisions. A huge thank you to Asia Pacific Institute of Experts (APIEx) for having us, and we look forward to more opportunities for collaboration.

This is another landmark achievement that affirms the value of multilateralism amid global challenges! We are so proud that our CE Ambassador Rena Lee ICJ Campaign and Singapore delegation were part of finalising the Riyadh Design Law Treaty (DLT), which will go towards enabling designers to better protect their creations, harness their power of their innovation, and grow. We also thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the SAIP - Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property for being such gracious hosts. We look forward to our journey together with all member states to empower even more innovators around the world. World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO Sharmaine Wu, Chee-Leong Wong, Kathleen Peh
After two intense weeks of negotiations, I am pleased to announce that WIPO Member States reached agreement earlier today on the new Riyadh Design Law Treaty. This agreement is a game changer for designers as it will streamline, standardize and update the international design protection system, allowing creators and designers to better protect their designs and move them across borders: https://lnkd.in/dJ2TXADH. Designs has long been the neglected child of the intellectual property (IP) family. With this development, it will shine a well-deserved spotlight on designers – many of whom are SMEs or individual designers – and their gift in using color, form and shape to delight our senses, enrich our lives and transform our culture. It is also the second time in a year that WIPO has delivered a new multilateral treaty. In May, we gaveled the WIPO Treaty on IP, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge (where there are already close to 40 signatures). Six months later, we usher in this new treaty consisting of 32 articles, as well as accompanying rules. This is an unprecedented achievement and a testament that even in challenging times, multilateralism can deliver real progress on substantive topics. This was a 20-year journey, and many have been involved over the years to bring it to where it is today. I thank them all. But the final mile is the toughest mile, and here our work was directed by our President, CEO of the Saudi Authority for IP, Dr Abdul Aziz Al-Swailem, with much of the heavy lifting also done by Sergio Chuez of Peru and Christian Schernitzky of Germany, working closely with the Member States and Group Coordinators. WIPO Secretariat colleagues (some of whom had been involved in this for 20 years!) worked round the clock with the hosts and negotiators. The negotiations were tougher than expected, but in the end, everyone came together to find the compromises to carry us over the finishing line. I warmly thank our hosts, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who not only provided a stunning venue in the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center, but whose warmth, hospitality and commitment touched all of us. With this Riyadh Design Law Treaty, the Kingdom and indeed the region is gearing up to contribute more to the global IP landscape, and to harness the power of its innovators, creators and designers. WIPO made history once again today, and I am confident that together, we will continue to do so for the good of innovators and creators everywhere. Photos: SAIP/WIPO #WIPO #DesignDipCon

[𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗠𝗣 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀!] Despite being “fraught with intense emotions”, this mediation success was made possible with the dedicated and skilful mediation by Jonathan Choo. His reframing techniques enabled both parties to candidly express themselves while working towards an interest-based, mutually beneficial outcome. One of the parties shared that this was the “best outcome” that saved them “unnecessary costs and the waste of precious time”. Mediation offers a faster, cost-effective way of resolving your IP disputes. Find out more at www.ipos.gov.sg/mediation. More about this latest mediation success here https://lnkd.in/g9yx666P.
