JERA Asia had a productive week at Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), contributing to dialogue on the energy transition and decarbonizing Southeast Asia. Our CEO, IZUMI KAI, participated in two key panels: the 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲-𝗜𝗘𝗔 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 on unlocking Southeast Asia’s decarbonization potential, and a session at 𝗦𝗜𝗘𝗪 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 discussing the role of natural gas in the global energy transition. Kai highlighted that while renewables will remain critical to decarbonizing power markets in the region, growth in LNG-to-power is expected to accelerate across Southeast Asia to support energy security and the transition away from coal – particularly in markets such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines. On Southeast Asia’s decarbonization, Kai emphasized the need for new capacity and transmission investments to meet growing demand, noting that tackling the energy trilemma will also require greater interconnectivity across the region, whether through cross-border power trade, LNG supply, partnerships, and investment. Through our efforts in renewables, low-carbon fuels, and LNG, JERA Asia remains committed to supporting the region’s path towards a sustainable and decarbonized energy future. #energytransition #SEA #energy #renewables #LNG #hydrogen #ammonia #decarbonization #sustainability

JERA’s Head of APAC Operations, TOSHIRO KUDAMA, participated in the S&P Asia Gas Markets Conference in Singapore earlier this week. During the fireside discussion titled “Hydrogen & Ammonia Integration into the Asia Pacific Energy Mix,” Kudama shared his insights on the challenges surrounding the development of new energy sources like hydrogen and ammonia. He drew parallels with the early days of the LNG industry, when the first LNG shipments from Alaska to Japan were viewed as risky, uncertain, and faced challenges around high costs and a lack of infrastructure. He noted that similar challenges face hydrogen and ammonia today, but emphasized the key difference: there is now a much greater focus and determination across the region to decarbonize. Kudama explained that while ammonia and hydrogen projects in Asia are still in their early stages, they are indeed progressing. The development requires a long-term perspective, but it is clear that these new energy sources will come and play a significant role in the future. At JERA, we are committed to advancing low-carbon energy solutions to support a decarbonized future. By driving innovation in three core areas—LNG, renewables, and hydrogen & ammonia —we are advancing the energy transition not just for Japan, but for Asia and the rest of the world. #JERA #LCF #hydrogen #ammonia #decarbonization

💡 Two weeks ago, JERA Asia CEO Izumi Kai had the pleasure of attending the 4th IndoPACIFIC LNG Summit in Bali, Indonesia, hosted by the Indonesian Gas Society. Mr. Kai participated in a panel discussion on the current state and future prospects of the hydrogen revolution. With JERA taking the lead in developing a low carbon value chain, Mr. Kai shared his insights on our decarbonization initiatives across the region and the strong synergies between LNG, ammonia, hydrogen, and renewables. As part of our 2035 Growth Strategy unveiled in April 2024, JERA continues to support the energy transition across three strategic pillars: LNG, renewables, and low carbon fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen, and is committed to reducing total CO2 emissions by 60% over the next decade and achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Special thanks to the moderator Syarika Bralini and the other panelists who participated. #Indonesia #Decarbonization #NetZero #Ammonia #Hydrogen
