Check out the video recording of the second talk delivered by Prof Sin-Wang Chong here! Click here: https://lnkd.in/dcV6JCiY
From 20 - 22 November 2024, the Research-Practice-Policy Group (RPPG) had the privilege to host Visiting Scholar, Prof Sin-Wang Chong from the University of St Andrews and National Institute of Teaching (NIoT)! Prof Chong delivered two talks – the first on practical insights into decision-making in academic publishing, navigating the publishing process and discussed the various types of publications with early career researchers and NIE - Office of Graduate Studies & Professional Learning postgraduate students. In his second talk, he co-presented with colleagues from NIoT, Dr Calum Davey and Dr Ellen Turner, about opportunities and challenges associated with conducting "close-to-research" practice, which underscores the symbiotic relationship among evidence creation, synthesis, translation, and use. They also shared about the projects held at NIoT on how to maximise engagement and impact. Finally, RPPG had a closed-door discussion about his work at TESOLgraphics (https://lnkd.in/g7jXAPPN) and SingTeach (https://lnkd.in/gAPiGw_f), our teacher-friendly e-magazine, where we exchanged ideas and talked about potential collaborations in the near future! A big thank you to all who joined us in person and online for the talks, and keep a lookout for the recording of the second talk which we’ll share very soon!

NIE - Office for Research reposted this
Driving innovation at the crossroads of education, healthcare, and technology. 💡 Dr Kenneth Y T Lim, Senior Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP) within NIE - Office of Education Research (OER) recently co-led a transformative project in partnership with Nanyang Technological University Singapore's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), funded by the Institute for Adult Learning Singapore (IAL)’s innovPlus Challenge 2023. The project, focused on the challenge statement “Enhancing the Informed Consent Process for Complex Surgical Procedures,” ran from September 2023 to October 2024, culminating in the creation of Reborn—an innovative app designed to empower patients undergoing complex breast surgeries with clear, accessible information about their surgical options, risks, and procedures. This enables them to make informed, confident decisions regarding their healthcare. As Co-Principal Investigator, Dr Lim and his team’s work underscore the NIE’s commitment to applying educational research to address real-world challenges, advancing patient-centred care, and transforming healthcare communication. We are honoured to contribute to innovations that support both patient empowerment and healthcare efficacy. Congratulations to Dr Lim and the team on this important achievement, showcasing the potential of research-driven collaboration to elevate healthcare standards.
