On 30th October 2024, we proudly hosted our third consecutive Induction Ceremony, marking the beginning of another exciting chapter for NTU Maritime Business Society. A heartfelt thank you to The Joint Branch of RINA & IMarEST (Singapore) for their generous sponsorship and unwavering support, and to our enthusiastic student participants for making this event a remarkable success! Our members gained invaluable industry insights, with an inspiring session by Sarah Long, Youth Committee Chair of The Joint Branch of RINA & IMarEST. Last Friday, NTU Maritime Studies celebrated its 20th birthday at the Orchard Hotel Ballroom. The anniversary dinner saw an estimated 350 guests, consisting mainly of alumni, professors and current students. 🧑🎓👩🎓⚓️ It was a joyful and laughter-filled evening as old friends reconnected and reminisced about the good old days. Guests also had the chance to rekindle cherished memories through thoughtfully crafted games, adding a touch of nostalgia to the event! 🕯️ The highlight of the evening was having Mr. Eng Dih Teo, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), as our Guest of Honor. His motivating speech highlighted our progress and offered a vision of the exciting future that awaits us.🌟 This successful Alumni Event was organised by the 20th Anniversary Planning Committee, led by Yanchao Zheng The committee consisted of NTU Maritime Business Society, NTU CEE Alumni Association, and School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), NTU, Singapore. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our sponsors, Vitol, Clarksons, Medusa Shipping Group and Union International. Without your generous support, this event would not be such a huge success! It was truly a meaningful and enriching experience for our NTU MBS Liaison members. On 16 March 2024, NTU Maritime Business Society had the privilege of hosting The Voyage IV: Shipwreck held at the Singapore Maritime Gallery for prospective Pre-University students to gain insights into the maritime industry. Our student participants relished the opportunity to delve into the industry insights through enlightening sharing led by industry experts Mr.Yi Han Ng （黄翼航）from Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), David Lee from Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), Maritime Studies Alumni Lee Wen, Celine and Wei Hao Khoo and current Maritime students Eleos Tan, Vera W., Sarah Long and Chan Lin Si. Additionally, through our event, participants also thoroughly enjoyed the interactive experience of constructing miniature ship models and Guided tour by our own Outreach department members. This event was made possible with the help from Chloe L. and Chan Xin Yi from Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Constance Thum from Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF). Last Friday, NTU Maritime Business Society members dived deep into the world of Maritime Incidents through the “Masterclass on Maritime Dispute Resolution workshop” - A joint collaboration between NTU Maritime Business Society, HFW, West P&I and Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) Students enjoyed an out-of-the-classroom experience, where real-life case studies brought forward enlightened students on the complexities of collision and salvage scenarios, highlighting the pivotal role of dispute resolution professionals in achieving equitable outcomes. On top of that, the event also provided a platform for networking with industry experts, offering valuable insights into the dynamics of maritime disputes and fostering meaningful connections! We would like to thank Chris Jones, Hugo Monro, Mark Myles and Alesha Faye from HFW, Julien Rabeux from West P&I and Dinah Amrad from Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) for their contributions to make this workshop on maritime incidents a success.
