Last Friday, Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ocean Purpose Project (OPP) to provide MaritimeONE scholars with more opportunities to give back to the community. SMF Chairman, Mr Hor Weng Yew, visited the OPP Beach Hub in Pasir Ris to witness their efforts in mitigating ocean pollution and promote ocean conservation. Such activities include converting plastic waste into VLSFO (low sulphur fuel) and hydrogen via chemical recycling, and using seaweed as agricultural fertiliser in the OPP Traditional Herb Garden, which features a wide variety of Ayurvedic, TCM and Jamu medicinal herbs. Ocean Purpose Project was a Finalist in the 2022 Smart Port Challenge, which is established jointly by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the National University of Singapore to champion maritime innovation. Through our collaboration, MaritimeONE scholars will participate in yearly beach clean-ups around Pasir Ris Park, instilling in them the importance of reducing beach pollution and fostering greater appreciation for ocean conservation. The scholars will also understand through Ocean Purpose Project's frameworks how to create blue economy synergies within maritime stakeholders to turn ocean pollution into solutions. Here’s to many more years working together with Ocean Purpose Project! #MaritimeSG #youth #givingback #OceanPurposeProject #OPP #BeachCleanup #Innovation #Sustainability #Community #StartTodaySaveTomorrow #PollutionToSolution

The global supply chain is constantly changing, shaped by manufacturers around the world striving to limit risk, build resilience, manage costs, and explore new markets for production. As many manufacturers seek to reduce their dependence on a single supply source, Southeast Asia is emerging as a prominent manufacturing hub, presenting opportunities for logistics companies. This morning, Fox Chu, Partner from McKinsey & Company shared the latest findings on supply chain reconfiguration, trade flow change in Southeast Asia, and implications to the logistics eco-system to 100 leaders from the maritime industry as part of the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) 𝗖-𝗦𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. Congratulations to all the finalists of the MaritimeONE Case Summit 2024 for your innovative proposals to address challenges in the maritime sector! I would also like to congratulate MaritimeONE Singapore for achieving the highest participation rate in the Case Summit, since its inception in 2019. Over 400 students across more than 120 teams from our local public universities and polytechnics took part this year. While challenges - especially in the areas of digitalisation and sustainability - are adrift in the maritime sector, these present exciting opportunities for learning and development for our youths interested in pursuing a career in the industry. Looking forward to seeing more great solutions coming from our next generation of maritime talent!

Last Friday, Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) to strengthen our ongoing partnership, as part of the MaritimeONE Scholars’ Advance initiative that allows scholars to give back to the community. FBSG plays a key role in the reduction of food wastage and food insecurity in Singapore through its advocacy and community engagement, sourcing of essential food items from food donation drives, and working with volunteers to assist in the packing and distribution of food to beneficiaries all around Singapore. Through our collaboration, MaritimeONE Scholars will engage in door-to-door deliveries of food bundles, which generates awareness of food insecurity in Singapore, fosters meaningful interactions between the beneficiaries and fellow scholars, and instills within them the importance of giving back to the community. We look forward to working closely alongside FBSG in the years to come! #MaritimeSG #youth #givingback #FoodBankSingapore #FBSG
