🔥 What a Night of Learning and Connections at the Fireside Chat! 🧠 Last night, we (NUS Business School Alumni Association (NUSBSA)) had the absolute pleasure of cooperating on an incredible Fireside Chat with the brilliant minds from Mensa Singapore (special shout out to Mensa SG president Andrew Leo). The session on ✖️ Speed Mental Multiplication Techniques left us all inspired and amazed, thanks to the engaging and passionate presentation by Goh Zhi Hwee. Here are some key highlights: 1️⃣ The History of Mental Math: We also explored the historical significance of mental calculators, their role in shaping early computation, and how techniques like these remain relevant even in today’s tech-driven world. 2️⃣ Learning the Trachtenberg Method: Zhi Hwee dived deep into this fascinating mental multiplication technique, breaking it down step by step with a live demonstration. It was an eye-opening experience for many of us as we discovered how speed and precision in calculations can be achieved with the right methods and practice. 3️⃣ Record-Breaking Feats: Zhi Hwee’s impressive achievement as a Singapore Book of Records holder for mental multiplication of large numbers was truly inspiring. His passion for mental arithmetic and his ability to simplify complex processes left us all in awe. 🛜 Beyond the learnings, this event was a wonderful opportunity to network and connect with members from both the Mensa and NUS Business School communities. The questions and sharings in the room were thought-provoking, and it was a reminder of how much we can achieve when we collaborate and share knowledge. We’re already looking forward to more joint events with Mensa Singapore, where we can continue building bridges, exchanging ideas, and growing together. 💙 🧡 A huge thank you to Zhi Hwee for sharing not just his expertise but also his love and passion for mental arithmetic—it was contagious! NUS Business School Alumni Association (NUSBSA) together with our community members, were delighted to participate in this incredible event on December 5th, hosted at Hatch. The evening was a treasure trove of knowledge-sharing, as we learned from some of the brightest minds shaping the startup ecosystems in Singapore and Malaysia. 🌟 A huge thank you to ACE.SG (Action Community for Entrepreneurship) and the Soonicorn Collective for orchestrating such a meaningful gathering! From exploring Singapore’s thriving startup ecosystem with Jia Le Low of ACE.SG to understanding Malaysia’s Startup Policy Development through the wisdom of Dr. Sivapalan Vivekarajah, the evening was packed with valuable insights.
