Creating opportunities for all Singaporean youth to be heard, be empowered, and be the change

About us

NYC is the national body for youth development in Singapore and the focal point of international youth affairs. NYC was set up by the Singapore Government on 1 November 1989 as the national co-ordinating body for youth affairs in Singapore and the focal point of international youth affairs. On 1 January 2015, NYC began its operations as an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and housed two key institutions: Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) and Youth Corps Singapore. Together, the agency will drive youth development and broaden outreach to young Singaporeans and youth sector organisations. Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, is the Chairperson of the 16th Council. The Council comprises members from diverse backgrounds such as the youth, media, arts, sports, corporate and government sectors.

  • NYC is proud to have led a 10-member youth delegation to the MiSK Global Forum 2024 from 18 to 19 November 2024 - a flagship event hosted annually by the Misk Foundation in Saudi Arabia to foster meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and create networking opportunities among young leaders globally. Led by the CEO of NYC, David Chua, our delegation includes youth leaders from MUIS’ Asatizah Youth Network and Mosque Clusters. Beyond attending the Forum, the delegates visited other youth sector organisations in Saudi Arabia to exchange insights, explore potential partnerships, and learn from best practices. Together, let's continue to amplify youth-led initiatives, nurture connections, and spark positive change around the globe! #nycsg #MiSKGlobalForum #MFG2024 #YouthEmpowerment #GlobalLeadership #YouthVoices #ForYouthByYouth

  • The 6th edition of the ASEAN Youth Fellowship (AYF) brought together 44 youth leaders from 11 Southeast Asian countries from 3 to 10 November 2024. This year, we were pleased to have Timor-Leste joining us at AYF for the first time!   Organised by the National Youth Council and the Singapore International Foundation, the theme for AYF this year was “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience” and was held in both Singapore and Laos.   Our AYF Fellows had the opportunity to discuss topics such as digital transformation, inclusivity, and sustainability in the region with prominent thought leaders from diverse sectors. They also gained insights to organisations in Singapore and Laos where they learnt about innovation and how to build a more connected ASEAN.    May the friendships and connections last beyond the programme, and we look forward to our youths creating greater impact in the region together!   To find out more about how you can make a footprint in the region, visit https://lnkd.in/guZ9qJdN #AYF2024 #ASEANYouthFellowship #YouthLeaders #ASEANYouthLeaders #YoungLeaders #MakingConnections #LeadershipSkills #ASEAN #NYC #SIF

  • On 14 November, NYC hosted a fireside chat with Mr Ho Kwon Ping, Founder and Executive Chairman of Banyan Group, where he engaged in an insightful discussion with our INSPIRIT members on the theme of "Building Our Future Economy and Business Leaders”. Mr Ho shared invaluable insights on the importance of emotional intelligence in navigating complex business landscapes. He emphasised how international exposure and embracing risks can foster innovation and personal growth. His advice resonated deeply with the attendees: to seek purpose beyond financial success and to build meaningful relationships rooted in trust and understanding. Special thanks to INSPIRIT members Adriel Yong 👋🏻Nathaniel YimEstelle H., and CHEN JUN (C.J.) LUO for co-driving this event. We are also grateful to INSPIRIT members for their active participation and insightful questions throughout the session. We look forward to hosting more engagements in the future to inspire and connect more youths. #INSPIRIT #success #business #leaders #innovation

  • Our youths have a part to play in the “One Resilient Common Future”.   Two NYC youth leaders joined their peers from across Commonwealth member states at the 13th Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) held in Samoa in October 2024, to share and explore solutions to key challenges and opportunities facing young people.   Yi Jun Mock and Sheila Manokaran also discussed how they would bring their ideas to key decision makers in their own respective countries. The Commonwealth youth leaders built important cross-cultural networks and were united in ensuring that the youth voice continues to be heard, as the Commonwealth moves towards the future.   As national delegates to the Commonwealth, Yi Jun and Sheila will continue speaking about Singapore at such platforms. NYC is here to support them to be heard, be empowered, and be the change they want to see.   #CommonwealthYouthForum #Commonwealth #YouthLeaders

  • The Youth Action Challenge has officially kicked off with the YAC Season 6 context setting session! 🔥 Participants got to know each other abit better, before meeting the different speakers, who led themed panel discussions. Participants then split into breakout groups for some in-depth idea exchanges. The session dived deep into all four themes and participants shared some incredible ideas. We can't wait to see these concepts come to life. Stay tuned for more updates. #YouthActionChallenge #YouthActionChallengeSG #YACS6 #nycsg #sparkthenext #innovation #youthaction #ideas #community

  • Building a sustainable future starts with our youth! We thank Minister Grace Fu for sharing her invaluable insights with our Climate Youth Development Programme (CYDP) participants. The fireside chat reinforced the critical role of collective action in advancing Singapore's climate goals and achieving net zero emissions by 2050 requires a whole-of-nation effort. By partnering with our youth, we can harness their creativity, energy, and passion to drive meaningful change. NYC is committed to empowering young climate leaders with the tools, training, and support they need to drive the transition to a greener tomorrow. #NYCSG #CYDP #Climate #Leaders #Sustainability #NetZero #Empowerment

Trailblazers of today 🔥 leaders of tomorrow 🙋🏻♂️ 🙋🏻♀️ Indeed our youths have the ability to take climate action and influence change in their communities. I had an invigorating engagement with this year’s Climate Youth Development Programme (CYDP) youths, where we exchanged perspectives and ideas on the action areas where youths can drive changes for a greener, and more sustainable planet. 💬 Their creative ideas to plug existing gaps and solve real-world problems in the climate and environmental sustainability space energised me and everyone in the room. As I listened to them, I am hopeful that we are on the right path to build a new generation of climate champions to champion a sustainable future for Singapore and the world. 🏆💚 Excited to watch the #CYDP youths learn and grow during the programme, and better drive youth-led climate action! 💪🏻 Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore, National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore, National Youth Council Singapore #Climate #Sustainability #Youths #GreenMadeEasy #COP29
