✨ Reflecting on WRO 2023-2024: A Journey of Growth and Gratitude ✨ After the administrative craze over the past few weeks and integrating back into our normal lives, we finally sat down as a team to reflect on our WRO journey. Competing at the WRO International Finals 2024 in Izmir, Türkiye, has been an incredible experience—one of growth, learning, and resilience. Finishing as first runners-up in WRO Singapore 2023 left us uncertain about returning for another season. With each of us juggling demanding academic schedules and coming from vastly different fields—life sciences, business, and mechanical engineering—it wasn’t an easy decision. Funnily enough during a casual hangout, we had an idea. We envisioned C.I.T., a robot designed to reconnect people with nature and support agricultural workers. Aligned with this year’s theme, Earth Allies, we knew we had to give the world stage one more shot... Winning WRO Singapore 2024 (photos 6-8) was a proud milestone, but the highlight was representing Singapore internationally. Competing against 87 countries and engaging with brilliant minds across cultures was both humbling and inspiring. Ranking 19th globally was an achievement in itself, but we couldn’t help but feel that, on another day, with a little more experience or luck, we might have gone further. Yet, beyond rankings, this journey was about much more—collaborating across borders, sharing diverse perspectives, and building lifelong connections. The road to Türkiye wasn’t without its challenges. Balancing academic demands with competition prep tested our resilience, and bridging different disciplines required patience and adaptability. Late-night brainstorming sessions, moments of frustration, and shared laughter built the camaraderie that defined our team. Though this may be our final project together, the bonds we’ve forged and lessons we’ve learned will endure. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support we received: - Alan Yong and Edmund Koh from Nullspace Robotics, for believing in us and mobilizing every resource to support our journey. - Goh Nathanael, who accompanied us to Türkiye and supported us tirelessly—troubleshooting the robot, printing posters, and even “babysitting” us along the way. We truly appreciate you. - Zhe Zhang Woo, who guided us selflessly even amidst National Service, transforming us with your mentorship in design thinking, presentation skills, and business strategies. - Justin, Jin Jia Pang, and Alicia Chan, for your technical expertise and guidance, ensuring our welfare. - Space Faculty and team SG, for fostering a supportive and friendly environment overseas. Looking ahead to WRO 2025 in Singapore, we’re excited to welcome the global STEM community to our home turf. It will be an honor to showcase not just our ideas but the spirit of innovation and collaboration that defines WRO. 🌍💡🤖 #WRO2024 #EarthAllies #Innovation #STEMJourney #RoboticsCompetition #STEMEducation

“What’s the significance of Big Data and how can it effectively support humanitarian organisations?”    We’re looking back on the insightful discussion carried out at the Digital Humanitarianism panel at the Humanitarian Futures Forum (HFF) held from October 29 - 30 2024. Our CEO Lynette Tan had the pleasure of moderating the session and we’re truly grateful we could take part in this incredible event, co-organised by the RSIS | S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies and the Changi Regional HADR Coordination Centre (RHCC).   Joining us in this key discussion were our esteemed panellists,    Fleur Johns, Professor of Law and ARC Future Fellow, UNSW   Pauline Paillé, Senior Analyst, RAND Europe  Ahmed Khamis El Saeed, Regional Head of United Nations Global Pulse, Asia Pacific  Andrej Zwitter, Professor of Political Theory and Governance, Chair of the Department of Governance and Innovation, University of Groningen, Netherlands  Amandeep Gill, United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology,    all sharing insights on how technological advancements can enhance humanitarian efforts and strengthen support systems for policymakers in addressing the industry’s challenges.    Some key takeaways that stayed with us include:    1. Shaping a Digital Humanitarian Future: Emerging technologies like AI can tremendously transform the efficiency of humanitarian work, enhancing collaboration over long distances and enabling impactful action even in complex and resource-limited environments where data may be less visible. 2. Data for Impact: Digital tools provide humanitarian actors with enhanced and timely insights, transforming how they address humanitarian challenges and complement decision-making. There is a need to remain vigilant to leverage this data responsibly by sharing knowledge and nurturing expertise within communities. 3. Foundations for Tomorrow: Foundational factors must be in place when implementing technologies, such as cybersecurity, strategic foresight, local stakeholder engagement, and addressing inequalities in area connectivity. These are vital for a secure and inclusive digital future for all humanitarian actors and their work.    Catch the full panel discussion here: https://lnkd.in/gGcWYJrF    Let’s continue to encourage open-minded, collaborative discussions and foster a culture of experimentation, learning, and leadership to drive meaningful, lasting impact!    #SpaceFaculty #SpaceFacultyAsia #ExperimentLearnLead #RSIS #HFF #RHCC #HumanitarianFuturesForum #DigitalHumanitarianism
