Congratulations to Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory for a well-deserved win in the inaugural Giving to Amplify Earth Action (GAEA) Awards, with its Decarbonising Rice project. The award recognises groundbreaking initiatives driving systemic change in climate and nature through their innovative, scalable solutions. TLL’s project is significant because it addresses several challenges surrounding one of the world’s most critical crops, especially in Asia. The field trials have shown that there is potential to bring about a significant reduction in methane emissions and water usage, while boosting crop yield. Plans are in place to expand the pilots to larger plots in Laos, India, Indonesia, and possibly other countries in Asia. Equipping more smallholder farmers with innovative technologies in sustainable low-carbon rice farming will help increase productivity while reducing their environmental footprint. Temasek Trust will continue to support the important scientific and research work that TLL does through harnessing our resources, expertise, and networks from across our ecosystem. 2024 has zoomed by – intense yet fulfilling – with the achievement of milestones in our journey to build better for every generation. At Temasek Trust, we set out purposefully, acting on our key priorities around Planet, People, Peace, and Progress, forging cross-sector Partnerships to bring about systemic change and scalable impact. In this article, I share an update on how our ecosystem entities, alongside like-minded #partners, are advancing our four pathways of #philanthropy: ● Building capacity for the impact sector ● Convening partnerships and inspiring collective impact ● Mobilising capital across the spectrum ● Enabling innovation and solutions at scale I also elaborate on our key priorities this year. There is much to be positive about the future. We are seeing a rise in philanthropic interest and participation from corporations and communities, increased focus on climate action, and stronger recognition of the intricate links between human well-being and planetary health. We are finding more common ground and partners who see the importance of intersectional collaboration – across sectors, borders, and disciplines. There is growing interest in credible monitoring and reporting to better value the materiality and additionality of philanthropic investments. Strengthening the core is essential to driving impact. At Temasek Trust, a strong core entails every team member nurturing our values, leadership, collaborative culture, and corporate capabilities that make for a cohesive, resilient, and effective organisation. This is vital to our ecosystem building – for we are not just preparing for the future, we are creating it together with like-minded partners to leave a lasting legacy for every generation. I wish everyone a happy and impactful 2025!
