Editor-in-Chief, LinkedIn Storyteller. I’ll help you find your True North.

“I think true wealth has very little to do with money,” Caesar Sengupta tells me. It’s a lovely, slightly gray Monday morning the day I met the CEO of Arta Finance at the startup’s office at UIC Building in Shenton Way. In this wide-ranging interview for The Peak Singapore, the former Google VP (and the brainchild of Google Chrome OS 🪭) reflects on his philosophies of the wealth divide, the motivation behind creating Arta, and how his mother’s insistence on quality education has shaped a significant part of his philanthropic leanings. “True wealth,” Caesar continues, “is much more about you feeling confident, secure, supported, and having relationships — the basics of life.” Beyond fiat, he also points to a combination of how much opportunity one has in life and the hope a person places in the country where they live. “I would say, a country like ours, where we have a good healthcare system and a safe, secure environment, actually creates more true wealth than a country without those things.” It’s a perspective that feels especially relevant in a time when the conversation around ultra wealth often focuses on accumulation rather than impact. Today, values-driven impact drives the work Caesar does at Arta Finance, a company aiming to make wealth management more inclusive by breaking down barriers that have historically kept financial tools out of reach for many. This idea of inclusivity takes on new life in Arta’s partnership with Co-Axis, a rethinking of who gets a seat at the table. For Caesar, it’s a natural extension of his belief that wealth is truly about opportunity and purpose—creating systems that don’t just grow individual fortunes but help more people feel secure, supported, and hopeful about their future. It’s an opportunity to move the conversation beyond who has the most, to what’s possible when everyone has enough to thrive. It’s for these reasons that Caesar is my December profile pick for The Peak’s digital-only exclusive series, ‘The Business Of’, a long-form exploration of what it means to create with finesse, lead with courage, and live sans fear or favour. Stay tuned.

  • 💫 #ImpactOpportunities Spotlight 💫 In this edition, we feature projects on Co-Axis that champion #oceanconservation. These opportunities work to preserve coastlines, remove marine pollution and prioritises the ocean to improve outcomes for the planet and people 🪸 Here are some examples of the #impactful work being done to protect our marine ecosystems: 🌊 Cilacap Blue Carbon by Fairatmos, hopes to revitalise the #mangrove ecosystem within the Segara Anakan lagoon along Java Island's southern coast, which is currently threatened by unsustainable aquaculture practices.  🌊 The Great Bubble Barrier® has projects in 5 different locations, and is on a mission to remove #plasticpollution from rivers and canals, preventing plastic from reaching the ocean.  🌊 Notpla, which recently received funding from Temasek Trust's Catalytic Capital for Climate & Health, is all about disappearing packaging. With #seaweed as an integral partner for their regenerative packaging, Notpla combines biomaterial innovation, system change and renewal at scale to transform the packaging industry.  🌊 Climateworks Centre within Monash University works between Southeast Asia and Oceania to bridge the gap between research and #climateaction by supporting leaders of governments, local and global experts, and philanthropic partners to drive #lowemissions solutions.   Learn more about them on the Co-Axis platform here: https://lnkd.in/gJtntW8N 🚀

Southeast Asia is expected to become the world's fourth-largest economy by 2030. As it continues along its trajectory of growth, the region will experience rapid demographic and economic shifts. Food consumption is expected to increase by 40% by 2050, further intensifying demand for agricultural products.     However, Southeast Asia’s agri-food system remains fragile. It faces fragmented smallholder farms, outdated farming practices, environmental degradation, and volatility brought upon by climate change. The combination of these issues needs to be addressed urgently.     The Centre for Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP), a non-profit established by Temasek Trust, has partnered with Wavemaker Impact, supported by Philanthropy Asia Alliance, to publish the report “Seeding the Future: Transforming Smallholder Farms for a Sustainable Tomorrow”: https://lnkd.in/guxGQp7h   More than 30 organisations – including impact investors and philanthropic organisations, solution providers, development programme owners and regional and international organisations – contributed their insights.   Key takeaways from the report include:   💡 Solutions need to be right-sized, right-priced, and targeted well.  💡 Impact should be at the core of all investing decisions. 💡 More investment needs to go toward the agriculture, food, and land use sectors. 💡 Cross-sector collaborations are crucial to break the cycle.   🌟 We invite you to reach out to us if you would like to work together on seeding the future for a sustainable tomorrow! #CIIP #WavemakerImpact #PAA #SIAW2024 #SustainableAgriculture #SmallholderFarmers

My heartiest congratulations to this year’s incredible Earthshot Prize winners and finalists. Your innovation, tenacity, and commitment to shaping a sustainable future inspire us all.   As a Global Alliance Founding Partner of The Earthshot Prize, Temasek Trust and our ecosystem entities were glad to support the Prize in championing climate #changemakers and innovators this year. Temasek Foundation and TPC (Tsao Pao Chee), a Philanthropy Asia Alliance member, supported the Asian Youth Climate Leaders programme. Organised by Common Purpose, the programme brought together 20 Asian youth climate changemakers to Singapore for immersion sessions with #TemasekTrust ecosystem entities - Mandai Nature, Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory and the School of Tomorrow #sustainability exhibition by Temasek Shophouse. They then joined 100 of their African peers in Cape Town, South Africa, for The Earthshot Prize Climate Youth Leadership Programme.   Joycelyn Ong, Head of Co-Axis, a digital impact marketplace connecting about 100 impact projects from 40 countries to funders, mentored the Earthshot Prize finalists on fundraising and pitching during their Fellowship Retreat.   At the Global Alliance Forum, Joycelyn elaborated on how catalytic capital can attract public and private sector funding to accelerate impact. She also shared how the #TemasekTrust ecosystem has been supporting the Earthshot Prize finalists and winners through funding, mentoring, and the opening up of our networks to drive their growth. For example, Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health (C3H) recently invested in Notpla, a leader in sustainable packaging and 2022 winner of the Earthshot Prize. 2023 winner GRST and 2024 finalist MYCL | Mycotech Lab are both mentees of the Amplifier programme by the Centre for Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP) and Philanthropy Asia Alliance.   Temasek Trust will continue deepening our #partnership with the Earthshot Prize and other like-minded partners across both our ecosystems to support the next generation of climate #changemakers, and to spotlight and scale innovative solutions - especially those focused on Asia - for a greener and cooler planet.    #EarthshotCapeTown
