[#IMPAC6] 🚀 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝟲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗿! 🌊The International Steering Committee for #IMPAC6 opened this morning in #Dakar, under the presidency of the Ministère de l'Environnement et de la Transition écologique, in the presence of technical and financial partners, including the Embassy of #Canada in Senegal. 🌱 This meeting marks a key milestone in the preparation of the 6th International Congress on Marine Protected Areas (IMPAC6), which Senegal will host in 2027 on behalf of Africa. ✅ For the first time on the continent, this event will bring together ocean conservation professionals and senior officials with the aim of informing, inspiring, and driving action for marine protected areas. 👏 This is an exceptional opportunity for #Africa to showcase its commitment to the effective conservation of marine biodiversity, as well as the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the oceans. 💚 PRCM-Regional Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation in West Africa, alongside its partners, is actively supporting the preparation of this major event by mobilizing technical and financial stakeholders. [#JMZH] 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗥𝗖𝗠 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗲𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 🌍 On the occasion of #WorldWetlandsDay, PRCM-Regional Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation in West Africa mobilized to highlight the importance of these vital ecosystems in the fight against climate change and the preservation of biodiversity. 🌱 We took part in the celebration of the Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Days of the Senegal River Delta, presided over by the Ministers of Environment of Senegal and Mauritania, reaffirming our commitment to the conservation of this unique site. 🍃 A key moment of the celebration was the visit to the Bell Basin, a pilot site for mangrove regeneration under the M𝐚n𝐠r𝐨v𝐞 𝐟o𝐫 𝐂l𝐢m𝐚t𝐞 𝐚n𝐝 𝐎c𝐞a𝐧 (#MCO) project. [#ProjectMCO] As part of the Mangroves for Climate and Oceans (#MCO) project, we have been carrying out two key activities since last week, which will conclude this week. These activities aim to strengthen governance and foster synergy among stakeholders: ➡️ 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: A crucial opportunity to bring together key actors, assess progress, identify challenges, and outline the next steps. ➡️ 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁: A field immersion to share best practices in mangrove restoration, support local communities through Income-Generating Activities (IGAs), and enhance their resilience to environmental challenges. 🌱 These interactive activities have enabled communities, researchers, and partners to exchange experiences, share challenges, and provide recommendations while highlighting the tangible impact of the project on beneficiaries' daily lives. [#Fishing] 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮🌊 🚨#Mauritania is facing a systematic plundering of its marine wealth. Turkish fishing vessels, particularly those linked to influential figures, exploit these waters with impunity. 🛥️ Illegal incursions, such as those by the vessel 𝘖𝘳𝘶𝘤 𝘙𝘦𝘪𝘴 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘬, highlight a blatant disregard for national laws. Despite the presence of monitoring systems, the lack of enforcement and sanctions raises questions about possible complicity. 📉 Moreover, damning revelations expose the extent of these illegal practices: ignoring fishing quotas, using prohibited nets, and overexploiting marine stocks.
