In partnership with Neyen Consulting, KORA Climate is happy to kick off a new project, “Analysis of the Impact of Transition Credits from Early Coal Power Plant Retirement". This project will study how transition credits could help reduce carbon emissions by speeding up coal phase-outs. It will also take an independent look at the existing carbon market, the demand for these credits, how they could support emission goals in both voluntary and compliance markets and each country’s climate targets. It aims to provide clear, practical insights into using transition credits to advance climate goals in our region. 🌱Jens Radschinski had a great time spending 3 days workshop at FAO and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) regional workshop in Bangkok last week, engaging in insightful exchanges with colleagues on Article 6 opportunities in the agrifood sector. It was inspiring to witness the incredible work happening in this space, and I was thrilled to make a few new connections with developers working on biochar projects. A highlight of the event was running the popular quizzes at the end of each day – a fun way to wrap up our sessions! Looking forward to continuing these important conversations and building new collaborations.🌿🌏

🌐KORA Climate at International Biochar Initiative Academy in Thailand🌐 We are excited to share that our team participated in the #IBI Biochar Academy workshop at Chiang Mai Thailand. More than 60 participants from over 12 countries attended the workshop, which focused on sustainable development and innovations in biochar and created an established community for biochar specialists. The Chiang Mai University biochar road's flexural strength was enhanced by using biochar as an admixture to replace sand(fine aggregates) for construction. The Biochar Academy was a great opportunity to meet practitioners and exchange experience with different technologies, biomasses, and project designs. We learned about an amazingly broad range of applications for this fantastic material. KORA Climate is also looking for chances to work together on biochar projects in Thailand and the #SEA region, aiming to make a bigger impact with eco-friendly practices for a sustainable future! 🌍 Driving Climate Action: Insights from Public Hearing on the drafted Climate Change Act B.E. Seminar 🌿 KORA Climate team was thrilled to participate in the public hearing session of the Draft Climate Act at Chiang Mai. Representatives from the Department of Climate Change and Environment (#DCCE) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment supported by Creagy Consultants and GIZ Thailand presented the framework and major topics of the draft Climate Change Act B.E. Besides outlining the strategic framework of achieving mitigation and adaptation the seminar focused on key areas to drive the transformation process such as the carbon market and pricing including, Emissions Trading System (ETS), the domestic and international carbon credit system and carbon tax. Stakeholders discussed and shared their insights on the draft act and provided valuable feedback and suggestions for further adaption of the Act. After completing the public hearing nationwide the Act will be finalized and submitted to the Cabinet for final approval. 🌿 A Green Kickoff to 2024: Our Biochar Journey Begins! 🌱 As we step into a new year, we’re excited to share a significant milestone in our biochar project development! 🌍 Suan Lahu Coffee Farm hosted a farmers’ workshop focusing on showcasing and spreading knowledge about biochar production and utilize villages. The objective was to demonstrate biochar production process and share knowledge on the benefits of biochar for soil improvement and the reduction of open burning of corn residues. KORA Climate was honored to be a partner of this Carbon Removal activity which is being seen as an important step towards scaling up the biochar activities in Northern Thailand.
