Excited to be attending the Transforming Evidence Network Conference in Cape Town, representing the Africa Evidence Network (AEN) and the Africa Evidence Youth League As an alumna of the previous Youth League cohort, it was incredibly refreshing to collaborate with Andile Madonsela B.M. Penka yesterday to produce a podcast reflecting on our experiences and the immense value the Youth League brings. It's inspiring to see initiatives like this empowering young voices and making the evidence ecosystem more inclusive and engaging. In today's era, conversations about data, evaluation, and evidence aren't just for the seniors- youth are stepping up to shape impactful change. Here's to building a youthful, dynamic evidence ecosystem #TEN2024 #EIDM Pan-African Collective for Evidence NPC #Youth #Education #Evidence Siziwe Ngcwabe (BA Social work, MBA, MPM.) On Thursday 14th Nov, at the 4th International Quality Education Conference (IQEC) our Executive Director Gloria Anderson moderated a session titled “Empowering Africa’s Youth: Integrating Young Voices in Decision-Making and Societal Development” along side speakers @kamalajr_ @arafat_lesheve @_reenymike and Dorika Burenga a high school student from Geita. Which focused on exploring strategies for including young people in decision-making processes, enhancing their opportunities for employment, leadership, entrepreneurship, and skill development, and providing the necessary mentorship and resources to unlock the full potential of Africa’s youthful population for sustainable growth and innovation. @tenmet #IQEC2024

It would be impossible to reflect on my time in Tanzania without acknowledging TEDI Tanzania and its founder/executive director, Gloria Anderson! TEDI’s mission is to improve the quality of education in Tanzania, and digital literacy is one of their main focuses. So, it was exciting to learn that we, at Drexel University, would partner with TEDI during our study abroad experience in Tanzania! Our collective duty was to raise funds and provide laptops for the children at Saashisha Secondary School in Hai, Tanzania. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our GoFundMe account. It is because of your generous donations that we successfully exceeded our fundraising goal of $2,500! The remaining funds will be used to establish ANOTHER computer lab in a different primary or secondary school in Tanzania. During our pre-travel classes, my group and I discussed the dangers of Toxic Charity and dependency. That’s why it was important for us to simply do our part, rather than completely taking over TEDI’s mission. #OneComputerLabOneSchool #LearnTodayLeadTomorrow We played our role well and created a long-term impact that will benefit generations of students. Gloria, you followed your passion for helping others, even when it seemed unconventional and risky. Many lives have been touched because you had enough faith to take this risk, thank you. Also, thank you to the students, teachers, and staff members who welcomed our group at Saashisha School. I certainly felt the love & appreciation expressed through gifts and dancing. #TEDI #Tanzania #digitalliteracy #studyabroad #computerlab

Along with my study abroad experience with Drexel University, we had the opportunity to be apart of a transformative initiative this past September. Through a partnership between Drexel University and TEDI Tanzania , founded by the inspiring Gloria Anderson , we were able to promote digital literacy and make a lasting impact on the educational landscape in the Hai District and beyond. Gloria took a bold risk when she started TEDI with a vision to give back to her community by equipping students with essential digital skills. Her dedication to closing the digital gap in Tanzania has been nothing short of inspirational. Together, we raised over $3,000 USD and received generous donations of laptops from Drexel TechServ to help turn her vision into a reality. Our mission: to empower students in Tanzania by providing them with the technology and tools to thrive in the digital age. Upon arriving in Tanzania, we were honored to open a new computer lab at Saashisha Secondary School alongside Bonnke Mutias. After, we were welcomed with an unforgettable ceremony by district education leaders and the local community. This lab, equipped with the laptops we brought from Drexel, will provide students with the resources to enhance their digital literacy and create new opportunities for their future. But the story didn’t end there. Thanks to the remaining funds and resources, TEDI was able to open another computer lab in Zanzibar later that same week, further expanding the reach of this initiative. This experience showed me the power of global partnerships and the courage it takes to spark change. I am humbled to have played a role in supporting the education of students across Tanzania and witnessing Gloria’s inspiring journey. A special thank you to Gloria Anderson, Ahaji Schreffler, Shardé Johnson, TEDI Tanzania, and Drexel TechServ for their vision and making this possible. The work we’ve started here will have a ripple effect, and I’m excited to see how these students use their new tools to shape their futures. #DigitalLiteracy #CommunityDevelopment #Tanzania #DrexelUniversity #TEDITanzania

Day Three at #OpportunityCollaboration Today, Nomad Education held a fascinating session with the Batonga Foundation and TEDI Tanzania entitled “Reimagining Education in Africa: digital solutions for inclusive learning”. We’re so delighted so many joined us from all around the continent: Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and more! We discussed a long list of very detailed digital solutions that have been serving constituencies like children with special needs, girls, rural youth, and more. Grassroots leaders shared their lessons learned, and how they are pushing for more inclusion and access. Nomad will be launching new national content in 15 new countries in Africa by the end of the year.. Every education change maker we have talked to said this kind of content will make a huge difference for the youth they work with. We can’t wait to see #opportunitycollaboration delegates use our app in their countries! Stay tuned to hear more about this content and what comes next! Caroline Maitrot-Feugeas

Attending the Opportunity Collaboration last week was a profound experience, offering deep reflections on leadership and how we embody it. Grateful to the organizers for curating a space with fewer formalities, allowing genuine and authentic relationships between stakeholders to flourish.
